Great Georgia Airshow coming back Oct. 11-13

After a one-year hiatus, the Great Georgia Airshow will roar back to life Oct. 11-13 at Falcon Field Airport in Peachtree City with its first-ever “night show” featuring a fireworks show and a “pyro show” executed by an airplane flying in complete darkness.

Also slated to perform in the Friday-only night show are the Aeroshell Aerobatic Team, the Magic By Moonlight plane, the Misty Blues all-female skydiving demo team and the FlashFire Jet Truck. Read More»

Writing winners are announced

The Carnegie and Jawbone Publishing are proud to announce the winners of their first writing competition, “When Coweta Writes”.
 The competition was open for two categories: teens (13 –19) and adults from age 20. Entries were accepted March 15, 2013 through April 30, 2013.
The contest was restricted to prose and fiction only, and limited to 1,000 words.
In the adult category, Laura Lynn Dunklin’s submission, “Small Rooms”, was the winning entry. Laura Lynn Dunklin is the daughter of a retired Army officer and married to the recently retired Colonel Douglas W. Dunklin. Read More»

Nearly 15,000 expected for festival

One of the region’s biggest festivals is set for this weekend.

The Powers Fall Festival in western Coweta County runs Saturday, Sunday and Monday, and organizers are expecting as many as 15,000 visitors over the Labor Day weekend.
The festival has been supplying the best arts, crafts, food, fun, and entertainment for 43 years and is well known throughout the nation.

The festival has been selected several times by the Southeast Tourism Society as one of “The Top Twenty Events”. Read More»

Peachtree City is finally getting its fireworks show. The show starts at 8:30 p.m. over Lake Peachtree Friday night, and only a minimum chance of precipitation is predicted for the date. The event kick off the Labor Day weekend for the community. Read More»

12th annual fishing rodeo a big success

More than 50 children participated in the 12th annual Fayette County Youth Fishing Rodeo Aug. 10 at the Luther Glass Park located in Peachtree City. 

Fifty-three youngsters participated in the free event, which was organized by the Peachtree City Bass Anglers in conjunction with the Peachtree City Recreation & Special Events Department and the Southern Conservation Trust. Event organizers provided fishing poles, buckets and bait to hot dogs and drinks. Every participant received a goody bag. GriefShare at Dogwood Church starts today. This group meets Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the church office building of Dogwood Church in Tyrone.  The 13-week series is open to anyone in the  community grieving the loss of a friend or loved one who needs to connect  with others going through the same journey.
