Of course Foodie was at the annual Taste of Fayette event this past Sunday (you didn’t see a guy in a fedora and sunglasses?). Grand opening for The Half Shell Oyster Bar this Saturday

The Half Shell Oyster Bar and Hot Dog Shop is owned by Natalie and Blaine Pitchford of Newnan, Ga. Oyster bar & hot dog style restaurants are common where they grew up (Dothan, Ala. - The Wiregrass). They couldn’t find that combination in Midwest Georgia, so they decided to bring some Wiregrass to the area. They started in downtown Newnan in April 2007. Chef at Wyndham Peachtree wins prestigious cooking award

Competitive cooking hadn’t been high on Chef John Kerkeslager’s priority list until this year. The last contest he’d entered was a quarter century ago, as a tenth grader taking food preparation classes in Lebanon, Penn. The competition was fierce and Kerkeslager came up with dishes including Seasoned Chicken Parmesan and Braised Celery Hearts that he thought were pretty good. The class instructor disagreed. Young John finished sixth in a field of six.
