F'ville council helps struggling businesses

The Fayetteville City Council March 4 continued its previous decision to lessen restrictions on business banners, stake signs and A-frame signs that was set to expire March 5. The recession-driven extension will be in effect until Sept. 5.

The council’s vote would allow the display of four banner signs per year rather than the two permitted under the ordinance. Banners can be displayed one at a time and attached to the building per ordinance requirements. Read More»

PTC staff forecasts 38% tax increase in 4 years

Peachtree City’s financial staff foresees gulp-inducing property tax increases to help balance the city’s budget for the next four years — a 38 percent jump in city taxes.

Looking ahead to budgets for the next four years, city staff is figuring in a series of city property tax increases: 0.269 mill for Fiscal Year 2011, 0.6 mill for FY 2012, 1 mill for FY 2013 and 0.25 mill for FY 2014. Read More»

Sewer considered for new Tyrone fire station

The Tyrone Town Council is considering granting a 1,000 gallon per day sewer allowance to Fayette County Public Safety for the replacement of Fire Station #3 located on Senoia Road near the old downtown area.

Fayette County Public Safety Director Allen McCullough at the council retreat last weekend said the county is ready to go forward with land acquisition for the replacement station and is looking for direction from the town on granting a 1,000 gallon per day allowance for sewer that would be needed at the new station. Google bid a group effort

Fayette County’s city and county governments are preparing a pitch for Google Inc. to make the county a test community for its ultra-high speed Internet service, which would have speeds up to 100 times as fast as currently available.
