PTC planners OK 100-unit senior apartments in Kedron

With a development agreement in hand, and certain other concessions won, the Peachtree City Planning Commission Monday approved a recommendation to rezone land off Newgate Road for 100 senior apartments.

The recommendation will be forwarded to the City Council, which has the final say on all zoning matters.

F’ville: Restaurants, yes; pawn shops, no

The Fayetteville City Council will hear the first reading June 17 of an amendment to the pawn shop ordinance that would restrict those businesses to the M-1 (Light Industrial) and M-2 (Heavy Industrial) zoning districts. Pawn shops are currently permitted in C-3 (Highway Commercial) districts, which would allow them along the city’s main thoroughfares of Glynn Street and Lanier Avenue.

The Fred faces renovation to box office; library board to disband

Thursday night the Peachtree City Council will consider two different options for renovating the amphitheater box office and, perhaps, an adjoining “annex” room to make way for the box office to host the city’s new visitor’s center.

The renovation is necessary due to the amphitheater and tourism association combining staff, as all such employees will be able to handle both functions. Read More»

Early voting sparse in Fayette

Through Tuesday morning, 197 people have taken advantage of the early voting offered at the Fayette County Elections office in downtown Fayetteville in advance of the July 20 primary election, officials said.

Voters are encouraged to cast their ballots early, and polls are open Monday through Friday at the elections office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Early voting will continue exclusively at the elections office for several weeks and it will expand July 12-16 with voting locations open at the Peachtree City and Tyrone libraries. Read More»

Opening of W. F’ville Bypass in mid-Nov. to bring big new intersection

Lowered Fayette County budget with no tax increase moving closer to approval

The public hearing June 10 on the adoption of Fayette County’s $74 million Fiscal Year 2010-2011 budget was little more than a formality. Commissioners heard no input, pro or con, from the public on the upcoming budget and ended the hearing nearly as quickly as it began.

A $1 million decrease from the current budget is accompanied by a nearly 8 percent decrease in the tax digest and falling sales tax revenues. Local property taxes generate approximately 61 percent of total revenues. Nonetheless, commissioners are not planning to increase property taxes to offset the losses. Read More»

Pilot studies on organic carbon levels approved

Fayette County commissioners June 10 unanimously approved funding for two pilot study treatment techniques designed to address the levels of total organic carbon in the South Fayette Water Treatment Plant. Though the county is currently in regulatory compliance, the tests will help the county decide on a course of action if the need arises in the future. Read More»

F'ville moves to attract downtown restaurants

Members of the Fayetteville City Council at the June 17 meeting will continue their efforts to attract restaurants to the downtown area.
