Kedron pools to be repaired

Both of the Kedron pools will be resurfaced in March at a cost expected to remain under $50,000.

The pool will need to be closed for three weeks to accomplish the project, according to Recreation and Special Events Administrator Cajen Rhodes.

The lowest bidder came in around $42,000 but the remainder of the $50,000 approved last week by council will be used as a contingency in case there are minor issues discovered during the process, Rhodes said. As an example, he said it is possible the skimmer system might need to be replaced. Read More»

Fairfield Inn makes pitch for 5-story PTC hotel on Hwy. 74

A proposal to rezone property on Wisdom Road near Ga. Highway 74 for a new 81-room Fairfield Inn hotel in Peachtree City has resurfaced.

In a preliminary vetting by the planning commission Monday night, it was noted that one of the most challenging issues for the 2.8 acre site is that it backs up to the rear of the Wisdom Point retail center, which offers a less than appetizing view but abuts the main entry drive and a courtyard area on the current schematic plan.

Architect Daniel Lemberg said he felt dense evergreen landscaping could help screen that view appropriately. Read More»

New rules coming just to lobby your councilman or commissioner

A bill that would almost completely ban lobbyist gifts to any Georgia legislator, save for certain specific circumstances, would also limit any citizen’s ability to advocate for or against legislation on behalf of any group with most elected officials across the state, even down to the town council.

The bill does contain language protecting the rights of citizens to express their individual views, however. Read More»

F’ville open to annexing new movie TV studios complex

The recent news that a portion of Fayette County just north of Fayetteville could become home to a major film and television production facility begs a question about a seemingly minor, yet pertinent facet of such a development: sewer services.

An unofficial poll of the Fayetteville City Council on Feb. 7 showed a possible annexation of the property could be considered, if requested, but the idea of the city running sewer lines without accompanying annexation would be more problematic. Read More»
