Fayette’s property values are on the upswing: 4%

In terms of local economic news, the numbers on the 2014 Fayette County real property tax digest could hardly be better. After years of falling property values and a break-even year last year, the numbers for the value of all the county’s real property is showing a 4.04 percent increase this year, according to figures provided by the Fayette County Tax Assessor’s Office. With several controversial traffic-related aspects on hold until the city’s highway corridor study is available, the Peachtree City Planning Commission approved a plan for an 87,000 square-foot shopping center on Ga. Highway 54 West that will be anchored by an unnamed “specialty grocer.”

With that approval, the developer could begin construction of the retail center, but without some items it previously said were essential. Read More»

On 2-0 vote, Colwell gets nod for vacant BoE post

With only one item on the agenda, the Fayette County Board of Education Monday afternoon appointed former interim Superintendent Dan Colwell to the Post 2 seat vacated by school board member Mary Kay Bacallao.

Colwell appointed to Post 2 school board seat

Former Fayette County School System interim Superintendent Dan Colwell has been appointed to the District 2 seat by the Fayette County Board of Eduction.

A Monday afternoon meeting saw Colwell appointed on a 2-0 vote. Board members Bob Todd and Marion Key voted in favor of the motion while board member Leonard Presberg abstained.
