Jolly wants to bring civility back to council meetings

Local businessman Ryan Jolly has announced he will seek the mayor’s office in Peachtree City this November.

At 34, Jolly is on the young side but he has seen enough council meetings first-hand to know what one of his top goals would be if elected: to bring credibility to council.

“My major goal is to bring respect back to the office of mayor,” Jolly said, noting that by definition the mayor’s major role is to lead city council meetings. “... The mayors, what they say and do is reflective on the whole city.” Read More»

The Peachtree City Council unanimously approved an additional $50,000 settlement with a female firefighter who claimed that former Fire Chief Ed Eiswerth stormed into her hotel room at a conference in November as part of an attempt to have sex with her. Read More»

Senoia/Coweta sign joint park venture

The Coweta County Commission and the Senoia City Council have approved an intergovernmental agreement that will lead to the establishment of a future active recreation park in the Senoia area. The new park will be designated as the Leroy Johnson Park.

The agreement calls for the city to purchase the future park property and to provide a warranty deed to the county. The county will be responsible for the park’s operation. The agreement also calls for initial construction to begin within three years. Read More»

Stover wins runoff election, takes vacant PTC/east Coweta House seat

The District 71 runoff election is over and David Stover will represent part of east Coweta County and portions of the west side of Peachtree City in the Ga. House of Representatives. The business owner defeated Sharpsburg general contractor Thomas Crymes in the March 5 election that saw Stover win 61 percent of the vote.

Both Republicans, Stover and Crymes were the top two vote-getters in the Feb. 5 special election that saw a field of six candidates facing off to fill the seat vacated by Robert Stokely. Read More»

PTC police seek tips via new phone app

In the “old days” of police work, tipsters had to phone in leads on cases.

Those times are changing, as the Peachtree City Police Department is rolling out a new app for citizens to anonymously report crimes. They also will accept tips from any computer and also via text messaging as well.

The free TipSubmit app, available for Apple and Android devices, allows users to submit videos and photos with their information. It also gives police the opportunity to hit the tipster up for more information in a two-way chat as part of the app. Read More»

Senoia approves 241-home subdivision

There is beginning to be incremental evidence that the sobering downturn in the residential housing market due to the Great Recession is taking a turn for the better. A bit of that evidence of came March 4 by way of the Senoia City Council and the approval of the 241-home Fieldstone Estates subdivision that will be located on Ga. Highway 16 West.

The approval paves the way for future development of the 268-acre property that is expected to be the eventual site of 241 homes on lots of up to one-half acre. The anticipated price range of the homes is $140,000-160,000. Read More»

Fayette eliminates 21 vacancies to recoup retirement savings promise

County replaced 22 of 32 employees who retired in June

Fayette County’s new county administrator last week eliminated 21 vacant positions across various county departments to create the nearly $2 million savings projected by the use last year of an early retirement program for county employees.

Steve Rapson said he was surprised to learn that the county had hired 22 new employees to take the place of the departing 32 employees, which stood to wipe out a significant chunk of the projected savings from the early retirement program. Read More»

Pinewood Studios site goes to planning commission

The process that would establish British-based Pinewood Studios Group in Fayette County is about to begin. A rezoning request for the 288-acre property on Sandy Creek Road and Veterans Parkway will be heard Thursday night (March 7) by the Fayette County Planning Commission.

The 288.50-acre tract is situated immediately to the west of Veterans Parkway and Sandy Creek Road. The property is currently zoned A-R (Agricultural-Residential) and R-70 (Rural-Residential with lots of two to three acres). The tract is surrounded by properties zoned R-70. Read More»

Annexation, rezoning expected to pass easily in F’ville

It should be smooth sailing March 7 when the Fayetteville City Council hears the second reading of a annexation request that would bring a small tract on Ellis Road into the city. Situated along Ga. Highway 85 south of the Fayette Pavilion, the annexation of the half-acre lot will round out the access needed for construction of a Panera Bread Company restaurant.

The council will also hear the first reading of a rezoning request that would lead to the installation of a drive-thru window in the new restaurant at the Waterfall commercial center on Grady Avenue and Ga. Highway 54 West. Read More»
