Key leadership position could be given to Tyrone Senator

Word has circulated in and out of the Gold Dome that state Senator Ronnie Chance of Tyrone is in the running for the next Majority Leader of the Senate for the 2013 legislative session.

They are nothing but rumors at this point, as Chance has declined to comment on the matter. With experience serving as a floor leader for Gov. Nathan Deal and former Gov. Sonny Perdue for several years, Chance may well have the political chops to garner serious if not strong consideration for the position. Read More»

Representative Bob Barr to speak at Republican breakfast

Bob Barr, who will be the guest speaker at the Fayette County Republican Party’s October First Saturday Breakfast, represented the 7th District of Georgia in the U. S. Attorney: Emails prove collusion in redistrict suit

An attorney seeking to overturn the new five-district map for electing Fayette County commissioners claims to have found a smoking gun that proves two opposing attorneys colluded to file the federal lawsuit that enacted the map in March.

Attorney Wayne Kendall claims that prior to Peachtree City-based attorney Rick Lindsey filing the lawsuit, Fayette County Attorney Scott Bennett emailed a template for the complaint to Lindsey, who used that template to file a federal lawsuit against the commission seeking adoption of the five district map. GOP’s Watts’ next stop: D.A. probe

Next up for embattled Fayette County Republican Party Chairman Lane Watts: A probe by the Fayette County district attorney for possible criminal charges related to Watts’ legal residence.

The Fayette County Board of Elections will turn the matter over to District Attorney Scott Ballard based on what it called an ethical obligation stemming from credible testimony that Watts did not reside at a Peachtree City residence from September 2011 through March 2012 as indicated on Watts’ voter registration form.
