Smith wins reelection to Coweta County Commission

In Coweta County, voters returned incumbent Democrat Al Smith to the District 5 post on the County Commission.

Smith defeated Republican Hayden Marlowe to retain his seat.

Coweta reported a turnout of more than 75 percent, with 55,774 voters casting ballots.

Here are the numbers:

Al Smith (incumbent Democrat) – 4,126 (53.91%)

Hayden Marlowe (Rep) - 3,528 (46.09%)

Local election results here tonight

UPDATE 9:40 p.m. — With all precincts reporting, the ESPLOST passed with 53.72 percent of the vote and Mary Kay Bacallao won the Post 2 seat on the Fayette County Board of Education with 64.81 percent.

Also, Fayetteville voters have approved the TAD referendum 2-to-1, according to the Fayette County Elections Office.

The last day of early voting Friday brought a long line at the Fayette County Commission meeting room in downtown Fayetteville, but the wait wasn't terribly long. There will be no early voting Monday and those who haven't voted must visit their precinct Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to cast their ballots. More than 100 voters last week got to hear it “straight from the horses’ mouths” at a candidate question and answer session hosted by the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce at Peachtree City United Methodist Church.

On the political hot seats for the Post 2 seat on the Fayette County Board of Education were incumbent homemaker and newly-proclaimed Democrat Terri Smith and her challenger, college professor and Republican Mary Kay Bacallao.
