Fayette Chief Judge Edwards to seek re-election

Fayette County Superior Court Judge Christopher C. Edwards has announced he will seek a fourth term on the bench.

Edwards, a Brooks resident, was elected to the bench in 1998 and re-elected for subsequent terms in 2002 and 2006. He hears cases in the Griffin Judicial Circuit which includes Fayette, Spalding, Pike and Upson counties.

Edwards has run unopposed the past two elections. Qualifying for the non-partisan race begins Monday, June 28 at 9 a.m. and runs through noon Friday, July 2. Read More»

GAE endorses only Democrats for statewide offices

The 43,000-member Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) on Monday released its list of endorsements for the upcoming statewide primaries. It was no surprise that only Democrats won GAE approval.

"Ours is a very exacting and detailed two-step process," said GAE President Jeff Hubbard. "Our political action committee, the GAE Fund for Public Education Committee, first sent out questionnaires to all declared candidates for statewide offices. Early voting sparse in Fayette

Through Tuesday morning, 197 people have taken advantage of the early voting offered at the Fayette County Elections office in downtown Fayetteville in advance of the July 20 primary election, officials said.

Voters are encouraged to cast their ballots early, and polls are open Monday through Friday at the elections office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Early voting will continue exclusively at the elections office for several weeks and it will expand July 12-16 with voting locations open at the Peachtree City and Tyrone libraries. Read More»

Don’t tread on . . . our Tea Party

The Board of Directors of the South Atlanta Tea Party (SATP) has drawn a line in the sand when it comes to local candidates for any office linking the phrase “Tea Party candidate” to their campaign.

The bottom line to candidates, the board said in a June 8 letter, is that the SATP has not endorsed any candidate. The group also advised candidates not to try to cash in on the Tea Party name without an endorsement by the local organization. Read More»

Voters with itchy trigger fingers can get their fix starting Monday at the Fayette County Board of Elections office in downtown Fayetteville.

Fayette Commission candidates at Christ Church Monday night

The July 20 primary is closing in. Those interested in hearing from the four candidates for two Fayette County Commission seats can get a closer look Monday night in an event hosted by the Fayette County Tea Party.
