On Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at 10 a.m., the Fayette County Republican Party will convene precinct mass meetings to elect delegates and alternates to the Fayette County Republican Party Convention.

All Fayette County residents who are legally registered to vote and believe in the principles of the Republican Party are urged to participate in this process.

Registration is without charge and will open at 9 a.m. on Feb. 12, 2011 and the precinct meetings will begin promptly at 10 a.m. at the Harvest Community Christian Center, located at 383 North Glynn Street, Fayetteville, Georgia 30214. Read More»

Fayette County Commissioner Steve Brown is hoping to rescind a controversial resolution passed by the commission last month that would give the county commission the ability to veto any appointee made by either political party to the Fayette County Board of Elections.

The final say, however, may rest with state legislators who have the ability to either change the law or leave it as is.

Currently, the county commission appoints one member of the elections board, while the Republican and Democratic parties also appoint one member each of their own choosing. Read More»

The tradition continued at the last meeting of the 2010 Fayette County Commission when county staff presented outgoing Chairman Jack Smith and Commission Eric Maxwell with working rocking chairs. The chairs are a going-away present symbolizing future relaxation for ex-commissioners. Smith and Maxwell were defeated for reelection in the July Republican Primary by Steve Brown and Allen McCarty.
