A single father of four is the first person to throw his hat in the ring for the Peachtree City Council election in November.

George Dienhart, 44, will seek the Post 2 council seat currently held by Doug Sturbaum.

The recent rancor among city council members actually spurred Dienhart to run for office, he said.

A project to fix the often-clogged interchange of Ga. Highway 74 and Interstate 85, the bane of many Fayette commuters, has survived another round of cuts for consideration in a push for a regional transportation sales tax.

The interchange fix, projected at $22.5 million, is on a list approved Monday by the five-member executive committee of the Atlanta Regional Transportation Roundtable.

Map-making won’t be the only chore taken up by the Georgia Legislature during its special session starting Monday.

Gov. Nathan Deal also wants the legislature to consider moving the date of the referendum on a regional transportation sales tax vote.
