Fayette residents living on large tracts of land no longer face the three-animal limit in county ordinances as it applies to cats and dogs.

Now that the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce has vacated the first floor of the historic county courthouse, a decision is pending on what to do with the space.

At a discussion today (Dec. 5) during its workshop meeting, the Fayette County Board of Commissioners are expected to give staff direction on the matter. Among the possibilities are leasing it to the Fayetteville Main Street Program, which has offered to manage leasing the third floor of the courthouse for special events much like it leases the city’s train depot. It may be just a small rezoning request, one that would rezone 1.38 acres on the northeast corner of the Fischer Crossings commercial development at Ga. Highway 34 and Fischer Road to make way for a short loop road. But if approved by the Coweta County Commission after a public hearing in mid-December it will signal the first improvement of the property since the rezoning for the large retail center was approved in spring 2011.
