Bridge replacement on Moore Road to cause detour

Work crews on Monday will begin work that will lead to the replacement of the bridge on Moore Road at White Oak Creek. A detour using Gordon Road to Martin Mill Road to Scoggin Road is being advised for the 17-month project.

The bridge replacement on Moore Road over White Oak Creek Tributary requires that the road be closed for removal and replacement of the bridge, said Coweta County spokesperson Patricia Palmer. The closure will begin March 7 and the road will be reopened by August 7, 2011.  Read More»

In 3-2 commission split, Fayette to stay in regional transit plan for now

An effort by newly elected Fayette County Commissioner Steve Brown to remove Fayette County from conceptual plans for regional bus and commuter rail service was rebuffed by a majority of the Fayette County Commission Wednesday afternoon.

County paying for Tyrone-Palmetto Road study

Project to look at widening, safety improvements for road that reaches I-85

The potential widening and reconstruction of Tyrone-Palmetto Road will be vetted through a scoping study.

The Fayette County Commission approved spending $30,000 for the study at its meeting Thursday night. Moreover, the county will approach Coweta County representatives to explore the chance of expanding the study’s scope to extend along the road’s path in Coweta County. Read More»

Project criticized for not reaching highways south of Fayetteville

Despite criticism that the planned East Fayetteville Bypass is not a bypass at all, the Fayette County Commission tonight approved a conceptual alignment for the road, along with pursuit of state and federal funding for the $39.4 million project.

The bypass would begin north of Fayetteville at the intersection of Ga. Highway 85 and Corinth Road, but the southern end of the bypass won’t reach either of the two highways south of Fayetteville. Coweta looks to expand advanced life support services

The Coweta County Fire Department at a recent work session of the Coweta County Commission asked the board to consider a plan that would provide additional Advanced Life Support (ALS) capabilities to county residents by adding ALS teams to three fire stations in need of additional service.

Brown lobbies DOT for I-85/Hwy. 74 solution

Proposed changes to the interchange of Interstate 85 and Ga. Highway 74 will be vetted by the Georgia Department of Transportation, according to Fayette County Commissioner Steve Brown.

Brown said he has received feedback that DOT is concerned with the proposals brought forth by an engineering study performed on behalf of the city of Fairburn, in whose jurisdiction the location exists. Read More»

Fayette County Commission prepares to vote on East Bypass alignment

The Fayette County Commission is expected to vote Thursday night on the conceptual alignment for the East Fayetteville Bypass.

The final alignment will be considered at a future meeting, but in general the bypass is expected to begin north of Fayetteville at Ga. Highway 85 North at Corinth Road. From there it will follow Corinth Road to Ga. Highway 54 where it will embark on a new road path to County Line Road.

The remainder of the bypass will follow County Line Road to the end of the bypass, which will be at the intersection of South Jeff Davis Drive and Inman Road. Read More»
