Regional sales tax may ‘speed up’ East Fayetteville Bypass

As construction plows ahead with the West Fayetteville Bypass, progress is being made behind the scenes on the East Fayetteville Bypass, according to Fayette County Public Works Director Phil Mallon.

But if a regional sales tax is approved in July 2012, that timetable could be sped up significantly, Mallon said. Seasonal flu shots available at Fayette Health Dept.

It’s the time of the season for anyone wanting to take advantage of the annual seasonal flu vaccine. The vaccine is available now at the Fayette County Health Department in Fayetteville.

“The first and most important step in protecting against the flu is to get a flu vaccine each season,” said Hayla Hall, risk communicator for District 4 Public Health. “Everyone 6 months of age and older is recommended to be vaccinated against influenza.” Read More»

County to close Kirkley Road for several months

Culverts degraded at Trickum Creek; closing starts Monday

Beginning Monday, Kirkley Road in northwest Fayette County will be closed to thru traffic because of the deteriorating condition of culverts underneath the road at Trickum Creek, county officials have said.

The county expects the road to be closed for several months, but the county will work "aggressively" to build a new creek crossing at the location. There was money programmed into this year's budget to handle the repairs. Read More»

Coweta adopts $59 million budget for 2012

There was little discussion Sept. 20 as members of the Coweta County Commission unanimously adopted $59.1 million General Fund budget for the fiscal year that begins in October. The FY 2012 budget represents a .76 percent decrease over the current budget.

County finance director Hans Wilson at the meeting provided a brief recap of the budget presentation made earlier this month. Wilson at that meeting said that FY 2012, like FY 2011, will be financially challenging across all fund categories. Read More»

Fayette set to OK contract for West Bypass, Phase II

The Fayette County Commission is poised to award a $3.4 million contract Thursday night for the completion of the second phase of the West Fayetteville Bypass, also known as Veterans Parkway.

The design includes a roundabout intersection at the bypass and Lees Mill Road and a new bridge over Whitewater Creek. This section of the road will begin at the current end on Sandy Creek Road, continuing to the north and east to Ga. Highway 92 North at West Bridge Road. Read More»
