There were a number of changes to the Coweta County Animal Control Ordinance approved by county commissioners Tuesday night. County avoiding tax hike; reserves to be used instead

Instead of raising the county’s property tax rate, the Fayette County Commission has decided to use its cash reserves to meet a $461,000 shortfall in revenue for the 2010-2011 budget year.

Two public hearings on Fischer Crossing set for Sept.

The Sept. 16 public hearing before the Coweta County Commission pertaining to a rezoning and conditional use request for the east side of the Fischer Crossing commercial development in east Coweta will be joined by another that night that requests the abandonment of 1,100 feet of Wynn’s Pond Road as it approaches Fischer Road. Blackburn wins Coweta’s Dist. 3 commission seat

Once the votes were counted and the smoke cleared Tuesday night Bob Blackburn squeaked by David Stover to win the runoff for the District 3 seat on the Coweta County Commission. Blackburn won with just under 51 percent of the vote.

District 3 voters cast a total of 2,874 ballots in the northeast Coweta race. Blackburn came away with 1,460 votes compared to 1,414 taken by Stover, representing a win for Blackburn with 50.8 percent of the vote. A total of 14 provisional votes remain to be tallied but those ballots would not alter the outcome. Read More»

County’s 53 dirt miles perplex officials

For a place considered part of metropolitan Atlanta, Fayette County has a good many unpaved dirt and gravel roads lingering around.

Some 53 miles of those roads are maintained by the county’s road department, and the county has $1.8 million squirreled away to pave some of them.

But that money may not be enough to pave a road, as the county commission expressed sentiment Wednesday that residents who want their dirt road paved should donate their right of way. Read More»

Commission skeptical about need for new Fayette judge

While Fayette County’s judicial circuit caseload meets state thresholds for adding another superior court judge, the concept wasn’t well-received by the Fayette County Commission Wednesday afternoon.

West Bypass Part 1 nearing finish

1st phase may be complete by year’s end; permits pending for 2nd phase

Despite playing a major role in the upset victories of two West Fayetteville Bypass opponents over County Commission incumbents, the controversial paving project keeps chugging along as if the election never happened.
