‘Conceptional path’ of west bypass 3rd phase up for vote

The final meeting of the year for the Fayette County Commission includes one more political hot potato for outgoing commissioners Eric Maxwell and Jack Smith.

County asks PTC to shrink Parkway-Crosstown fix

At the request of the Fayette County Board of Commissioners, Peachtree City is looking to scale back its plans to improve the intersection of Peachtree Parkway and Crosstown Drive.

The city on Wednesday asked the commission to set aside $774,000 in remaining transportation SPLOST funds to add multiple turn lanes to the intersection. The city needed a quick answer to avoid losing more than $400,000 in state matching funds for the project. Read More»

Fayette considers use of old jail while repairing new facility

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners will study a proposal this afternoon that would result in making repairs to the old jail facility at the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office so it can be used to house inmates as gradual repairs are made to the “new” jail, which is already eight years old.

It will cost at least $30,000 to rejuvenate the old jail, including repairs to boilers, the air conditioning system and replacement of window frames, according to a memo circulated to commissioners. The county is also looking into the potential cost of repairs to heating and plumbing systems. Read More»

PTC wants cart path bridge, F’ville asks county for roundabout funds

Fayette County officials today (Wednesday) will hear a Peachtree City request for $1.8 million in funding for a new cart path bridge over Ga. Highway 54 West near the city limits and also to add more lanes to the intersection of Peachtree Parkway and Crosstown Drive.

The county is also slated for further discussion for a similar funding request from Fayetteville for a roundabout at Ga. Highways 92 and 85 and Hood Avenue, which would cost an estimated $6.93 million. Read More»

Local attorney Kathy Brown Valencia has been appointed to fill a vacant judgeship in Fayette County Magistrate Court.

Valencia was officially appointed Nov. 24 by Fayette County Chief Superior Court Judge Christopher C. Edwards. As one of eight attorneys who were interviewed for the position, Valencia was the unanimous recommendation of the six judges who sat in on the interviews with Edwards, including the three current magistrates and the three other Superior Court judges. Commission approves stealth cell towers

Coweta County commissioners, county planning staff and consultants discuss the specifics of a monopine cell tower to be operated by Skyway Towers that was later approved for an 11-acre site on Lora Smith Road.

The Coweta County Commission in the past two weeks has approved the installation of two 150-foot monopine cell phone towers in east Coweta. The approvals were preceded by objections by nearby residents.

Constructed to take the shape of a pine tree, the monopine cell tower on Parks Road proposed by T-Mobile was approved unanimously by commissioners despite the objections of a number of nearby residents citing their opposition to the tower on the basis of health and safety issues, sight pollution and the inappropriate use of the zoning district. With a small amount of input, the Peachtree City Council decided to hold off for now on deciding whether it is a good idea for Fayette County to pave Sims Road, which would provide a link between Astoria Lane in the Kedron Hills subdivision and Dogwood Trail in the unincorporated county. It's official: Steele ousts Haddix as Fayette transportation roundtable rep

For all intents and purposes it will be Fayetteville Mayor Ken Steele who will be one of the two Fayette County representatives on the Regional Transportation Roundtable that will produce a list of proposed transportation projects for the 10-county Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC).

The final list to be determined later will go before voters in mid-2012 in the form of a 10-year, one-cent transportation sales tax. Read More»
