Coweta approves cell tower on Lower F’ville Rd.

The Coweta County Commission at the June 7 meeting on a 4-1 vote approved a request by T-Mobile to install a 150-foot monopine tower on 37.5 acres on Lower Fayetteville Road.

The rezoning request by T-Mobile for 1874 Lower Fayetteville Road includes the installation of a monopine telecommunications tower and supporting ground equipment for wireless communications on a portion of a 37.5-acre open land and wooded property that contains one residential structure, according to county Director of Planning Robert Tolleson. Won't require sign-up, but citizens may have to wait until end of meeting to speak

UPDATED for print version — Citizens wishing to address the Fayette County Commission in the future will not have to sign up a week in advance.

But they may have to wait to have their say to the end of any meeting, after all other business is conducted, under a proposal suggested Wednesday by Commission Chairman Herb Frady.

Frady noted that some of the citizens recently have become “boisterous” during public comments at the beginning of the meeting. Since there are sometimes Boy Scouts and other youths in the audience at the time, it’s not a good atmosphere, he said. Read More»

‘Model’ ordinance would require all commenters to sign up 1 full week ahead of meeting

At its workshop meeting this afternoon, the Fayette County Commission is slated to discuss a slate of new meeting rules, one of which, if enacted, would severely impact citizens’ right to speak during the public comment portion of the meeting.

Under a so-called “model ordinance” proposed by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia — which the commissioners will be discussing — a citizen would be required to submit their name and the topic of their comments at least one week prior to the meeting at which they wish to speak. Fayette County to save $2M in 2 years by adding new 9-1-1 tax

Starting this fall, all property owners in Fayette County may be paying a brand new property tax to help fund operations of the county’s 911 center.

The proposed 911 millage rate, recommended by county staff, is two-tenths of a mill, which will equate to an additional $19 a year for a home with a fair market value of $250,000.

The tax would be assessed on every home in Fayette County, including its cities, as they are all served by the county’s consolidated 911 center. Read More»
