Recession or not, Tyrone to hold steady at 2.89 mills

The Tyrone Town Council is on its way to adopting the $3.085 million FY 2010-2011 budget by the end of June. Expected decreased property tax revenues are being offset by 3 percent departmental reductions and the transfer of $136,000 from the reserve account. The 2.89 millage rate is expected to remain unchanged.

The council Thursday continued the discussion of the proposed General Fund budget that totals $3,085,674. That amounts to a $45,005 increase, or 1.5 percent, over the current year. Read More»

Fayetteville Council considers time limits on downtown parking

The Fayetteville City Council at its May 20 meeting will take a look at imposing time restrictions on public parking near the courthouse square.
Main Street Director Brian Wismer in a May 10 memo said the proposal would create time limits for public parking spaces around courthouse square. City staff are recommending a four-hour time limit between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., seven days a week.

F’ville Council work session called for May 20

A City Council work session has been scheduled for Thursday, May 20 at 5 p.m. in Council Chambers, 240 South Glynn Street to provide an update on the City of Fayetteville’s Livable Centers Initiative Supplemental Study.

As a part of the process, concept plan alternatives for three sites within the LCI boundaries were developed. The consultant firm for the study is Urban Collage, Inc.

New vacant building rules proposed for PTC

Owners must register, pay $200 fee, maintain property interior and exterior

Inspection and re-inspection fees have been dropped from a Peachtree City staff proposal to require all vacant homes and buildings to be registered with the city.

Owners of such properties, both residential and commercial, will still have to pay an annual $200 fee to the city when registering their structure, under the revised proposal that will be discussed by the City Council Thursday night.

The ordinance also requires broken windows to be repaired or replaced within 14 days of the property owner being notified, and windows may not be boarded up for longer than 14 days. Read More»

F’ville council approves 90-day moratorium on pawn shops

The brief agenda at the May 6 meeting of the Fayetteville City Council included the imposition of a 90-day moratorium on permitting or licensing pawn shops and the transfer of $19,000 to the Downtown Development Authority’s (DDA) regular account.

City senior planner Linwood Robinson said that recent inquiries related to pawn shops led to the need to have the current ordinance clarify the zoning districts where the shops could be located. Read More»

An amended site plan to build a Walgreens pharmacy that would replace the Ruby Tuesday restaurant at Ga. Highway 54 and Peachtree Parkway will be discussed by the Peachtree City Planning Commission tonight.
