Georgia’s highest court has upheld the 2007 annexation that added 782 acres, and just under 1,100 potential new homes, to Peachtree City’s northwestern limits.

The Georgia Supreme Court ruled that a subsequent annexation in 2008 cured the complaint filed by Peachtree City resident David Worley, who filed the suit hoping to overturn the annexation on the basis that the initial annexation created “an island of unincorporated land” which is forbidden under Georgia law. Tyrone approves request to withdraw industrial rezoning proposal

A request before the Tyrone Town Council on Nov. 17 by Hobgood, LLC to rezone 20.17 acres on the west side of Ga. Highway 74 just south of the Rivercrest subdivision from Agricultural-Residential (A-R) to Heavy Mechanical (M-2) was withdrawn by the applicant. Hobgood representative Rick Sewell said a plan will be forthcoming at a later date once Hobgood and area residents confer on the idea of proposing a “higher and better use” for the site. Read More»

PTC inks deal with Fayette Senior Services

Will provide programming for Gathering Place, ‘new’ space

Fayette Senior Services will begin administering Peachtree City’s senior citizen programs Jan. 1 under a year-long contract for $182,000 that was approved Thursday night by the Peachtree City Council.

The contract will reduce the amount of money the city currently pays for its senior citizens services, currently over $200,000 a year, said City Manager Jim Pennington. Read More»

F’ville to review Olive Garden sign request

The sign variance request by the new Olive Garden restaurant on Ga. Highway 85 North to install an additional sign will be reconsidered by Fayetteville City Council on Nov. 17.

The original request was denied in October but is being recommended by city staff for approval because the private access drive near which the sign would be located essentially serves as a public street.

City Director of Public Services Don Easterbrook in a Nov. 4 memo said city staff is requesting reconsideration of the sign variance from Olive Garden. Read More»

With RaceTrac coming, PTC Council to decide Hwy. 54W street swap

A few tweaks for the proposed RaceTrac convenience store on Ga. Highway 54 West at Line Creek Drive were suggested by the Peachtree City Planning Commission Monday night, but barring major trouble the project appears headed for approval next month.

As for what will go behind the RaceTrac on the rest of the 13-acre site, it depends in part on an agreement that will be considered by the City Council Thursday night.
