PTC to consolidate signs

Peachtree City officials have conducted an exhaustive review of city signs, ranging from “no littering” signs to traffic signs and the monument signs indicating each major city complex.

In some locations, the city has far too many signs in what Community Services Director Jon Rorie called “sign clutter.” The theory is those signs will be consolidated in the future, Rorie told the city council at a workshop meeting Tuesday night. Read More»

Recycling in PTC reaches 20 percent

In the third quarter of last year, Peachtree City residents hit a recycling milestone.

For the first time since the garbage companies were required to offer curbside recycling to every customer in August 2009, the city has eclipsed the 20 percent mark in volume: diverting a total of 428,000 pounds of recyclable materials away from landfills. Read More»

Kedron pools to be repaired

Both of the Kedron pools will be resurfaced in March at a cost expected to remain under $50,000.

The pool will need to be closed for three weeks to accomplish the project, according to Recreation and Special Events Administrator Cajen Rhodes.

The lowest bidder came in around $42,000 but the remainder of the $50,000 approved last week by council will be used as a contingency in case there are minor issues discovered during the process, Rhodes said. WASA honored for anti-grease campaign

To help prevent sewer overflows caused by fats, oils and grease — commonly referred to in the industry as FOG — the Peachtree City Water and Sewer Authority has an educational program to help remind residents to dump such products in the trash instead of flushing them down the pipe and into the sewer system.
