PTC planners to discuss open space rezonings

An update of Peachtree City’s land use and zoning maps will include changes to a host of city-owned parcels of land that are currently zoned for open space.

The rezonings will only affect city-owned parcels; no private property will be rezoned as a part of the new land use and zoning maps that will be considered this month by the city planning commission and city council.

The new maps and new parcel zonings will be discussed at Monday night’s meeting of the city planning commission.

The commission meets at City Hall at 7 p.m. and the meeting is open to the public. Read More»

Changes to Legagcy Church approved

Minor changes to the Legacy Christian Church project on Rockaway Road were approved Tuesday by the Senoia City Council. The shape of the building on the 19 acre property will be changed from rectangular to square and the positions of the nearby pavilion and playground will be interchanged. Read More»

Talks continue on future of old Senoia Police Dept.

What should become of Senoia’s old Police Department on Main Street now that the new building has opened on Howard Road? Should the buildings be sold or leased? The answer to that question will be left up to the city council once cost estimates for needed rehab and structural work have been obtained.

City administrator Richard Ferry told the council Tuesday night that an environmental sampling of the old buildings, one frame and the other concrete, had been completed for asbestos, lead paint and mold. And that is exactly what was found. Read More»

Senoia moves ahead with assisted living project

The Senoia City Council agreed Tuesday night to continue its plan to have an elderly care facility established in the city. The council voted unanimously to deed 7.34 acres on Coweta Street to the city’s Downtown Development Authority to facilitate the upcoming contract for the project. Read More»

Senoia okays rule on pre-owned manufactured homes

The Senoia City Council Tuesday night heard the second reading and unanimously approved an ordinance addressing the regulation of pre-owned manufactured homes.

City attorney Drew Whalen last month told the council that the ordinance addressing pre-owned manufactured homes was needed so that the city could be in compliance with recent changes in state law.

“The city needs an ordinance to regulate pre-owned manufactured homes as long as age is not used as a factor,” Whalen said. Read More»

Newnan 2010 property bills ready to mail

The 2010 property tax bills for City of Newnan residents will be mailed Wednesday, September 15 with a due date of October 29. The city would like to remind citizens that anyone owning property in the City of Newnan will receive two separate tax bills, one from the City of Newnan and one from Coweta County, each payable to the appropriate party and with different due dates. $600K city-county project to extend Lafayette Ave. to Church St.

The Fayetteville City Council last week gave unanimous approval to an intergovernmental agreement with Fayette County that will use nearly $600,000 in previously collected 1-cent sales tax revenues to add a traffic signal on North Glynn Street at Lafayette Avenue and extend Lafayette to the east to intersect with Church Street some 800 feet away. PTC Mayor Haddix foresees more 2-to-3 votes ahead

Peachtree City Mayor Don Haddix, who hasn’t shied away from controversy by chiming in to local bloggers via TheCitizen.com, is venturing into new territory this week.

In a letter to the editor on Page A4, Haddix is now criticizing fellow Councilman Eric Imker for bringing up a matter at a council meeting which Haddix was already working on behind the scenes.

In this case Haddix is upset that Imker discussed at last week’s council meeting the possibility of renegotiating the city’s take of the 2004 special purpose local option sales tax for transportation. Read More»
