A plan hatched by Peachtree City Mayor Don Haddix to perhaps avoid a 1 percent sales tax for regional transportation initiatives is likely dead in the water after his own city council voted a measure down 3-2.

Haddix proposed petitioning the Fayette County Commission to initiate a process that would result in Fayette County leaving the Atlanta Regional Commission planning agency and joining the Three Rivers Regional Commission instead.

When it comes to Peachtree City’s cart path system, 93 miles isn’t enough.

Also in the “not enough” category is funding for new cart paths. Nonetheless, at the request of City Councilman Eric Imker, city staff recently conducted an intensive review of potential new cart paths that could be built in the city.

The paths were ranked in several categories including connectivity and safety improvements, ease of construction, whether additional work such as right of way acquisition and utility relocation would be necessary and the like, city officials said. Read More»

The move late last month by the Fayetteville City Council to place a 90-day moratorium on applications for rezoning and other uses in the city’s manufacturing districts is intended to give planning staff the ability to take the time needed to scrutinize the uses that exist and to make sure those uses will serve the city in the future.

Senior Planner Linwood Robinson on Tuesday said the request for the moratorium followed a recent special exception request to establish a waste transfer in one of the manufacturing-zoned areas. Read More»

Thursday night, the Peachtree City Council approved a redistribution of units for The Somerby senior citizen residential complex off Ga. Highway 74 and Rockaway Road.

Somerby’s total units will remain at 310 despite the changes. It has increased its age-restricted assisted living units from 48 to 74.

In exchange, it will reduce its condominium units from 42 to 30, and its apartments from 150 to 136. Read More»
