Senoia to hold hearing on charter change

Those attending the Nov. 5 meeting of the Senoia City Council will see contemporary history in the making. The meeting will feature a public hearing on changing the city charter to a form of government designed to limit the power of the mayor. A part of the charter change will include the imposition of term limits for the mayor and council. Tyrone denies residential request

There was little discussion Nov. 1 as the Tyrone Town Council voted unanimously to deny a proposed rezoning of nearly 36 acres on Laurelwood Drive to a classification that would lead to the establishment of one-acre lots for 11 homes. The current zoning requires three-acre lots on the site.

Shaw Custom Homes president Graham Shaw told the council he bought the property in March. The infrastructure is already in place for 11 lots, Shaw said, adding that the cost of reconfiguring the streets to accommodate fewer than 11 lots would be cost-prohibitive. Read More»

Fayetteville Chief Heaton wants council to OK auxiliary force

The agenda for the Nov. 1 meeting of the Fayetteville City Council will be limited but will include an overview of the proposed Fayetteville Police Department Auxiliary Force.

Police Chief Steve Heaton will report on his recommendation to establish the auxiliary force. The idea is to have the new unit established with graduates from the department’s Citizen Police Academy, Heaton said in an Oct. 19 letter. If approved by the council, academy graduates will work on a voluntary basis to assist officers with non-law enforcement tasks, Heaton said. Read More»
