Senoia budget shows decreased spending

December in Senoia not only brings all kinds of Christmas festivities, it also brings the annual adoption of the budget. The first of two public hearings on the budget will be held Dec. 10 and will show a proposed 2013 general fund budget totaling $2.292 million that reflects a 1.5 percent decrease in spending over 2012.

The current general fund budget totals $2.327 million. City Administrator Richard Ferry in his budget report said the general fund budget proposed for FY 2013 totals $2,291,800. That figure represents a decrease of 1.5 percent over current budget that ends Dec. 31. Read More»

Medical building seeks sewer access for new building

A proposal to annex a 4.4 acre site containing a new medical office building and a second such building under construction will be formally considered at a later date by the Peachtree City Council.

The site, which is accessed via Ga. Highway 54 East, is contiguous with the city limits along Sumner Road. The developer wants the annexation so the buildings can be hooked up to sewer service.

Council’s vote Thursday night allows the developer to work with city staff in exploring the annexation further, but a final vote of approval or denial will come from council at a later date. Read More»

Senoia looks at water, sewer rates

The Senoia City Council will hold a public hearing Dec. 10 to review proposed changes in the cost of water and sewer rates. A proposed increase of 10 percent for water and 21 percent for sewer for residential customers, based on average consumption, is designed to make up the difference in system revenue requirements that have suffered during the recession.

The council will look at four proposals for water and sewer rates. The most equitable for all customers, proposal 4 would result in an equivalent increase for residential, commercial and industrial users. Read More»

Council approves hotel-motel tax increase

With the blessing of the vast majority of hoteliers in Peachtree City, the city council voted 4-1 Thursday to increase the city’s hotel-motel tax from 6 to 8 percent.

That will steer extra funding to the city that will be used to maintain and improve existing city recreation facilities which will in turn be used to leverage sports tournaments to help fill hotels, particularly on weekends when business-related traffic is light.

Hike in PTC’s hotel-motel tax may be in works

The hotel-motel tax in Peachtree City may be raised from 6 to 8 percent, pending approval by the City Council and also the Georgia legislature.

As part of the increase, the proposal is for one of the eight percentage points to be dedicated toward capital improvements and maintenance of sports and recreation facilities under the theory that they draw visitors to the community, according to a staff memo provided to the council. Read More»

PTC Council eyes Hwy. 54 E. medical office annexation

The owner of a new medical office built on Ga. Highway 54 east just outside the Peachtree City limits is asking for the 4.4-acre site to be annexed by the City Council.

Thursday night, council will consider whether to allow staff to work with the property owner, Foot Pain LLC, on the proposal.

The site is the original home office of Ankle and Foot Centers of Georgia and podiatrists Dr. Joseph Giovinco and Dr. Gregory Alvarez. Founded in 1982, the company now has 18 locations around the Atlanta metro area. Read More»

PTC cost committee focuses on survey

A group of citizens studying Peachtree City expenditures is inching closer to preparing a survey to help determine what citizens’ priorities are in terms of spending for certain city services.
