School for jobs: Career Academy would train kids for local openings

For Peachtree City Councilwoman Kim Learnard, it seems as if the time is right for an alternative career path for Fayette County school students.

To that end, Learnard on Monday night presented the idea for developing the Fayette Career Academy to the Fayette County Board of Education. Learnard is taking the idea on the road and is expected to present her findings to the school board in the coming months. Read More»

Who is this man? Sign grabber caught on video

A candidate for the Post 1 seat on the Fayette County Board of Education said a video camera has captured the image of someone who took one of his campaign signs ... and from the candidate's home in Tyrone, no less.

Barry Marchman provided the video to The Citizen which shows what appears to be a bespectacled white male pulling the sign up from the ground. While the video quality is not high-definition by any means, it provides enough detail to likely identify the culprit.

The video was captured by a video camera designed to capture wildlife which is often referred to as a "game cam." Read More»

Coweta BoE adopts $169 million budget

The Coweta County Board of Education has adopted a $168.5 million General Fund budget for the 2012-2013 school year that begins July 1. The budget includes no reduction in school days or salary reductions.

Recession or not, the budget comes with no reductions in K-12 academic offerings, no reduction in the 180-day school year, no additional cuts in educational programs or services, no salary reductions for employees working 180 days or less other than state-budgeted Pre-K reductions. Read More»

‘Vision’ touted as board votes 5-0 for added 18 months to 2015
