Superintendent recommends Fayette go along with reduced Pre-K schedule of 160 days

Georgia public schools next school year will see the number of days that Pre-K students will be in the classroom decrease from 180 to 160. The Fayette County Board of Education will meet in a work session April 11 to discuss the possible restoration of the remainder of school system employees’ salaries that were reduced two years ago. Fayette high school days get longer in Aug.; middle schoolers also affected

Beginning in August school days get longer for Fayette County’s high school students — 20 minutes longer each weekday afternoon.

And middle school students will have to get to school 10 minutes earlier than they have been used to, but they will get out 10 minutes earlier each afternoon. Read More»

Coweta BoE approves $2 million in new buses

More buses for Coweta County schools were approved last week by the Coweta County Board of Education. That approval will add another 23 buses at a cost of $1.9 million.

Associate Superintendent Jerry Davis in recommending the purchase noted that of the $1,920,443 price tag for the 23 buses, a total of approximately $610,000 will be reimbursed by the state. Read More»

Bass says goodbye to Coweta school system

It has been 35 years since Blake Bass began his career in education. That career will come to a close at the end of March. Members of the Coweta County Board of Education Tuesday night thanked Bass for his decades of caring and concern for students, parents and the Coweta community.

Coweta County School Superintendent Blake Bass on Tuesday conducted his last meeting of the Coweta County Board of Education. The transit from his beginning days in education to the Tuesday night meeting spanned 35 years. Board members near the end of the meeting expressed their appreciation for his service and dedication to the school system and the community.

Frank Farmer began the statements, thanking Bass for his outstanding leadership, his service to the community and his friendship.

Local high schools seek more teaching time

The principals at Fayette County’s high schools Monday morning advocated for adding an Instructional Focus period at the three high schools that are not currently utilizing the extra time for additional instruction.

The called meeting came after the Fayette County Board of Education wanted more information on the 20-minute instructional period previously implemented by Sandy Creek High School and Fayette County High School. Read More»

Fayette parent charges cyber bullying – in the 4th grade

The parent of a 9-year-old girl at a Fayette County elementary school told The Citizen last week that his daughter had been the victim of cyber-bullying through a website put online by one of her classmates in the fourth grade. Read More»

Coweta ESPLOST meeting in Senoia Thursday

A public meeting on the continuation of the Coweta County School System’s 1-cent sales tax for education (ESPOLST) will be held at the Senoia Municipal Court and Police building on Howard Road on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Coweta voters will go to the polls on March 15.

Fayette Board of Education to consider state bullying policy

The Fayette County Board of Education at its regular meeting on March 15 is expected to vote on a new bullying policy. The policy comes by way of a state law that has been reviewed by the Ga. Dept. of Education and sent to school systems across the state. The new policy will supplement the school system’s existing procedures on bullying and will add a new definition to the school system’s student Code of Conduct policy. Read More»
