St. Gabriel’s Fish Fry continues for two more weeks

The Knights of Columbus, Council 11458, from St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Fayetteville will continue their Annual Fish Fry for two more Fridays, April 4 and April 11, at the church.

The first plate will be served at 5:30 p.m.

All adult meals are $8 per plate; all child meals are $5 per plate.

The menu will include both baked and fried Tilapia. St. Gabriel Catholic Church is at 152 Antioch Rd. south of downtown Fayetteville.

Congregation B’nai Israel plans comedy show, auction

Congregation B’nai Israel will sponsor a Comedy Show and Silent Auction Saturday, May 10, at 8 p.m. at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City. The show will feature Comedian Keith Barany,

Before the show, a silent auction will be held for items ranging from weekend getaways, to theater and special event tickets, spa packages, fine jewelry, electronics and more.

The cost is $15 per person. All profits go to support religious education, helping those in need and promoting interfaith cooperation. Read More»

Pick up date for Greek pastries is right around the corner

St. Christopher Hellenic Orthodox Church’s annual Greek Pastry Spring Sale is set for April 11 and 12.

Featured items include handmade Tiropita (cheese filo triangles) for $10 per dozen, Spanakopita (spinach, onion, cheese filo triangles) also $10 per dozen, Tsoureki ( braided Easter bread) for $10 per loaf, and Koulouria (twisted cookies with or without sesame) for $8 per dozen.

Piedmont-Fayette Hospital offers graduate pastoral care courses

Piedmont Fayette Hospital offers graduate level pastoral care training known as clinical pastoral education (CPE) for community members and clergy interested in learning more about spiritual care.

As part of the program, students of all faiths minister to people in intimate and sometimes critical situations while being supervised.

Over the course of five months, the CPE students will engage with patients in a variety of settings including hospitals, prisons and hospice facilities. Read More»

Phyllis Webb Towell, 86, of Fayetteville, Ga., passed away on Sun., Mar. 16, 2014.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph M. Towell, of Fayetteville, Ga., son, William Lee Webb, daughter-in-law, Ann Hepburn Webb and grandson, Andrew Hepburn Webb, all of Alexandria, Va.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Herman Webb and brother, Carl Holmes Fisher of Charlotte, N.C.

She was born in Kannapolis, N.C., attended Cannon High School and graduated from Flora McDonald College in Red Springs, N.C. Read More»

Joan Holland Wilson went home to be with the Lord on March 18, 2014. 

She was born in Cedartown, Ga., to William Pratt and Annie Casey Holland. After graduation from Cedartown High School, she moved to Atlanta and attended business college before being employed with the Georgia State Public Service Commission. 

Joan met her husband, John, while working with the State of Georgia.  During their dating period, she also attended art school, studying under a noted portrait artist.  They were married on November 13, 1966 and have two children:  Rhonda Ann and William Carlton.  Read More»

Kathy Ann Packard Hoffman

Kathy Ann Packard Hoffman, 61, died March 25, 2014 at her home in Coweta County near Palmetto, Ga.

A service was held on Tuesday, April 1, at 6:00 in the evening at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Chapel, 821 Old Atlanta Highway in Newnan, Ga. The interment will take place at the Harmony Grove Cemetery in Lockeford, Calif. on Friday, April 4th.

John Allen Beall

John Allen Beall, IV, age 64, passed away Wed. Mar. 26, 2014. Mr. Beall was a 1971 graduate of Auburn University and a 1984 graduate of Woodrow Wilson College of Law.

He last served as the senior conflict criminal defense attorney for the state of Ga. from 2009-2012.

Prior to this position he was a criminal and civil defense attorney in Jonesboro, Ga. from 1985 to 2009.

He served as a member and president of the Clayton County Bar Association, member of Clayton County Masons, Jonesboro Chapter, and a long time communicant of Saint Andrew's Church in Peachtree City, Ga. Read More»

Wilfred Gerald Stoner

Wilfred Gerald “Jerry” Stoner of Fayetteville passed away March 26, 2014. He served his country in the US army Air Corp during World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years Phyllis Stoner; sons Michael (Carla) Cain and Richard Cain; 5 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great great-grandchild.
