Sparrow of Honor Flight Fayette honored by DAR

Gail Sparrow was recently honored by the James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution by being named the 2009 Community Service Award recipient. According to Sparrow, Honor Flight Fayette is all about honoring the veterans. “This is their day to tell and demonstrate how special they are, and how grateful America is to them for preserving our freedoms,” said Sparrow. King William McElwaney, III, 67, of Jupiter, Fla.

King William McElwaney, III, 67, of Jupiter, Fla., passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at his residence.

Born in Atlanta, Ga., he had been a resident of Jupiter for nine years, coming from Palm Beach, Fla. Prior to retirement, he was the director of operations for Delta Air Lines at LaGuardia Airport, Logan Airport and JFK.

Mr. McElwaney was the coordinator for the 1996 Summer Olympics for Delta Air Lines in Atlanta. He recently started his own property management company, Complete Home Check of Jupiter. Read More»

Angelina (Angie) Soldovere, 68, of Peachtree City

Angelina (Angie) Soldovere, 68, of Peachtree City, GA died peacefully with her family by her side on April 8, 2010 after a long battle with cancer.

She was a sweet, vibrant, and loving woman who cared for her family, her many loving friends, and beloved animals she brought into her home. Born July 21, 1941 and raised in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Louis and Antoinette Portanova. Read More»

Miss Sandy Creek pageant set for April 17

The annual Miss Sandy Creek Pageant will be held on Saturday, April 17, at 7 p.m. in the Sandy Creek High School Patriot Hall.

Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door. Tickets are available in the high school office.

The Pageant celebrates female students who exemplify school spirit, academic dedication, extracurricular activity participation, and community service.

The Pageant is sponsored by the Sandy Creek High School Choral Boosters. Proceeds support the high school’s choral program.

PTC yard and garden show cancelled

The annual Spring Yard and Garden Show, hosted by Peachtree City Parks and Recreation Department, that was scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 24, has been cancelled.  

“Due to the lack of commitment from vendors, we feel it would be best to cancel the 2010 show,” said Event Coordinator, Ashley Alonso. “This year it seems as though there was not much of an interest for something like this. We are hoping for a bigger and better show sometime in the future.”

The Rev. Marvin Curtis Taylor of Fayetteville, Ga.

The Rev. Marvin Curtis Taylor of Fayetteville, passed away on April 6, 2010 at the age of 83.

Marvin was a veteran of WWII, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Navy Chief for twenty years prior to his retirement. After following the call to defend his country, he followed a greater calling to the ministry, serving as pastor of Churches in Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and West Germany. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Marvin and his wife Nora met on a blind date in December of 1949, and were married eleven days later. Their marriage lasted sixty years. Read More»

James B. Peterson, Fayetteville, Ga., awarded Air Force ROTC scholarship

James B. Peterson of Fayetteville, Ga., has been awarded an Air Force ROTC scholarship to attend a host college or university.

He is the son of James R. and Nora D. Peterson of Bridgestone Cove, Fayetteville, Ga.

His grandfather, Earl Peterson, resides on Arncliff Drive, Shreveport, La.

Army Pvt. James K. Hall graduates basic training

Army Pvt. James K. Hall has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.
