PTCUMC to offer handbell lessons

On four Tuesdays in July, Peachtree City United Methodist Church will offer a series of free handbell lessons for adults and high school/college students who are curious about handbells.

The one-hour lessons, from 7 – 8 p.m., will be given on July 5, 12, 19 and 26 and are open to the community.

To reserve a spot, contact Jeanne Blood at lblood3@bellsouth.net or 770-487-2962. No commitment is required and there is no charge for the lessons, which will take place in the third floor bell room at the PTCUMC Family Ministry Center, 400 Windgate Rd. in Peachtree City. Read More»

Summit offers camp for special kids

The Factor Grandparent Raising Grandchildren (GRG) committee at The Summit Church has brought key stakeholders together to provide a grief camp for children being raised in grandparent/relative care homes.

Camp Re-Mix, offered July 16-18, is a three-day, two-night weekend camp for children 7-14 years of age who are living in relative care placement.

The Camp experience will include regular camp activities, swimming, hiking, and campfires. Therapeutic activities include, art, skits, and small group discussion. Read More»

Southern Country Gospel Sings for the month of June will be held in the Grantville Railroad Freight Depot in Grantville, located on Exit 35 on Interstate 85. For Friday June 25: Jackie Robinson, Ward Family and One Accord. For Saturday June 26: Wayne Faircloth from Columbus, Christiannaires from LaGrange, and Bobby Ellis Band from Columbus. Adkisson 50th wedding anniversary

George and Suzanne Adkisson of Fayetteville.

George and Suzanne Adkisson of Fayetteville will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary July 3, 2010.

They were graduated from Brown High School and were married on July 2, 1960 at West End Baptist Church in Atlanta. They lived in the Metro Atlanta area before moving to Fayetteville in 1987.

George, a graduate of Georgia Tech, is a retired mechanical engineer and Suzanne is a retired church secretary.

They have three children, Iris (John Harris), Matthew (deceased) and Steve (Joy); and five grandchildren, Phillip and George Harris, and Keeley, Alanna, and Amelia Adkisson.

Mr. Ralph Lawrence Thompson of Peachtree City

Mr. Ralph Lawrence Thompson of Peachtree City died June 18, 2010.

Mr. Thompson was retired from Delta Air Lines. He is a member of Legacy Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife Kara Thompson of Peachtree City; sons Sgt Aaron Thompson, U. S. Army; Matt Thompson of Peachtree City; mother Jayne Barnes of Albuquerque, N.M.; stepfather Jim O’Neil of Durango, Co.; sister Gidget Hall of Albuquerque; and brother Carl O’Neil of Durango. Read More»

Let Freedom Ring in Fayetteville, July 4

The annual Let Freedom Ring Ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 4 at the Old Courthouse Lawn in Fayetteville. During this short but meaningful ceremony, the signers of the Declaration of Independence will be read, and a bell will be rung in their honor. The event is free and open to the public.  Bring lawn chairs for seating.

Local veterans to hand out flags at parade, July 3

Who better than our veterans to hand out American flags at an Independence Day Parade? As is their tradition, the veterans organizations of Fayette County will be at the front of the Peachtree City parade and have again joined together to present flags along the parade route. Members of The American Legion Post 105, American Legion Post 50 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9949 are shown with just a few of the thousands of flags, made in America, they will be handing out.
