Coweta Gospel sings move to new location

The monthly Grantville Gospel Sings, which have been held in Grantville’s Railroad Freight Depot, will now be held in Grantville’s New Life Baptist Church, 5710 South U.S. Hwy. 29, directly across the road from Glanton Elementary School.

The sings will begin at 6 p.m. instead of 7 p.m., as they did in the Depot.

The schedule for July includes:Friday, July 23, One Accord from Columbus, Masters Touch from LaGrange, Denny Grimes from Columbus, and Abiding in the Vine from Columbus. Read More»

FFUMC will offer several Financial Peace classes beginning in August

Fayetteville First United Methodist Church (FFUMC) has announced it will offer multiple courses in Financial Peace University (13-week course) in the fall of 2010. The course benefits couples/individuals of all ages — those with or without debt.

Newnan Catholic church members will honor their patron saint July 21

Members of Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Newnan are preparing to honor their patron saint. Although the official date is Thursday, July 22, the parish is planning a vigil Mass at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21. The special liturgy will focus on the saint’s life and her faithful dedication and following of Jesus Christ.

Saint Mary Magdalene stood at the foot of the cross on which Jesus was crucified, accompanied by his mother Mary. She was the first disciple to find that he had risen from the dead as he promised and she proclaimed his Resurrection to the other apostles. Read More»

Trip to DeKalb Farmer’s Market planned July 27

Fayetteville First United Methodist Church will partner with Fayette Senior Services for a trip to the DeKalb Farmer’s Market July 27. The group will leave the church at 10 a.m. and return about 3:30 p. m.

The cost of the trip is $7, with lunch cost additional, paid by the individual. The church will provide coolers and markers for those who want to make purchases at the market.

At least 15 registered participants are required to make the trip. Register at the church by July 20. Individuals must be paid to be considered registered. For more information, call the church, 770-461-4313.

Miller Anniversary

Harold E. and Sara Starr Miller

Harold E. and Sara Starr Miller will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary July 21, 2010. Mrs. Miller is a Fayetteville native and Mr. Miller has resided in Fayetteville for the past 60-plus years. The couple formerly operated Miller’s Vineyard on Ga. Highway 54 East for more than 30 years.

Celebrating with them will be their children, Doug and Nina Miller, Lyn and Phil Bergen, and Jeanie and Ricky Ponder; their grandchildren, Michelle, Melanie, Brandon, Ben, Eli, and Lars; and one great- grandchild, Paige.

Local Girl Scout still collecting school supplies for children of homeless mothers

While most teenagers are celebrating their summer break from school, one young lady is continuing to spend her time on a project that will help a group of children have all their school supplies for next year.

Lauren Sarkis, a rising Sandy Creek High Schooler, has been collecting backpacks, pens, markers, paper, binders, and numerous other school supplies for children at Atlanta Day Women’s Shelter. Her goal is to have 100 backpacks, filled with school supplies, ready for the children to use come August and the start of the new school year. Read More»
