The Peachtree City Women’s Civic Club was very honored recently to have Kent Vickers, Membership Chairman, Friendship Force of Greater Atlanta, as their Guest Speaker. The Friendship Force is a global network of clubs that coordinate group exchanges between club members from different countries. The organization was established in 1977 with the support and endorsement of President Jimmy Carter, and currently has 367 clubs in 55 countries on 6 continents. Read More»

Authors of a book on the black schools in Fayette County seeking assistance

County Historian, Carolyn Cary, and Fayette Countian, Janice Taylor Gates, are compiling information to write a book on the black schools in the county.

“We have a good bit of information,” said Gates, “on the Training School from 1954 to 1968. We are in need of information before that period of time.”

They have a paper that was written probably sometime in the 1950’s, and they only have pages one and two. Read More»

Fayetteville resident to compete in Triathlon and Poker Run

Fayetteville resident and Safelite AutoGlass employee Mark Walker will travel to Las Vegas to compete alongside 150 colleagues from around the U.S. and across the globe in the inaugural Safelite Triathlon and Poker Run. The event, taking place this Saturday, raises money for Ma'Afrika Tikkun, an organization benefiting children and orphans in South Africa.
 
To-date, the triathlon and poker run participants have raised more than $165,000 for the charity.
