The Fayette Thrift Shop celebrates 20 years

Twenty years ago this month, Asden Johnson and Eileen Patton began the Fayette Thrift Shop. It has always been open six days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The store has clothes, house-wares, and books available at reasonable prices to  those who are in need of them.

They have 80 volunteers, and a board of directors of 15 people, all of whom receive no remuneration of any kind.

Their kindly landlord, Wendell Goodman, has always been thoughtful of their rent, so that their only other expenses are utilities and phone. Read More»

Peachtree City Boy Scout Troop 279 recently had five members pass their Eagle Boards of Review at Peachtree City United Methodist Church. From left are Patrick Pietrzak, DJ Wigner, Robert Worley, Mitch Watson & Roberto Cama. All are Fayette County residents, except Roberto Cama who now attends college in Athens. Eagle friends soar through ceremony

Not long ago, two young men, who met through scouting, achieved the pinnacle rank in Boy Scouts when both were awarded Eagle status.  Lukas Love and Nate Shepherd met as young boys through the Boy Scout program at Troop 75 in Peachtree City.  Their Eagle ceremony took place at First Baptist Church Peachtree City.  Mayor Don Haddix made a special presentation to the boys and Pastor Jim Garner delivered a charge for the boys to continue on their quest to be “physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.”  Scoutmasters Greg Quandt, Bill Gray, and Scott Ash also spoke. Richard Montgomery Cox, Jr., 94, of Fayetteville

Richard Montgomery Cox, Jr., 94, of Fayetteville, GA, formerly of Albany, NY, died September 17, 2010.

Mr. Cox served his country as a sergeant in the U. S. Army. He earned his masters degree and was human resources manager for NL Industries, a chemical manufacturing company.

Mrs. Berenice B. Anderson, 80, of Fayetteville, died September 19, 2010.

Berenice was born December 1, 1929 in Akeley, Minnesota. After her marriage to Donald Anderson in 1951, they moved to the Atlanta area where she devoted her life to her family and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald M. Anderson, son Donald Curtis Anderson, granddaughter Naomi Anderson, brother Art Brault, and sister Ruth Harris. Read More»

Mrs. Opal Rhodes Gressett, of Fayetteville, died September 17, 2010.

She was a faithful member of College Park Second Baptist and McDonough Road Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Odie Gressett.

She is survived by her daughter Cindy & John Christopher of Fayetteville; grandsons Michael Snyder of Newnan and his fiancé Elisa Healey, and Steven and Amanda Snyder of Flowery Branch; great-grandson Dylan Snyder; sister Evelyn Puckett of Chunky, MS; sisters-in-law Ruth Gressett of AL, Janet Rogers of MS, and Ileen Gressett of CA; as well as several nieces and nephews.
