Blessing, Pet Fair is this Saturday

The Episcopal Church of the Nativity will host its second annual Blessing of the Animals and Pet Fair in Fayetteville by the Gazebo on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the Blessing starting at 4 p.m.

Mother Henault, Nativity’s rector said, “This is our way of giving back to the community by providing a fun-filled day and helping to raise money for the Fayette County Humane Society.”

The event will feature pony rides, face painting, a clown, animal demonstrations and contests, food, a mini-petting zoo and much more. Read More»

Deadline is today for reservations for Oakland, Mitchell house trip

The SAGE group (seniors 55 and older) at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church is planning an outing to include a tour of the Oakland Cemetery, the Margaret Mitchell House, and lunch at Six Feet Under in Atlanta on Oct. 7.

The group will depart from the parking lot next to the Holiday Inn at 9 a.m. and return around 4:30 p.m. The cost is $25 plus the cost of lunch.

Deadline for registrations is Sept. 29, at which time 15 paid registrations are needed to make the trip. Read More»

FFUMC offers ‘Living Faith Fully’opportunities for October

Fayetteville First United Methodist Church will focus on a variety of “how to” classes in October to explore ways to live faith using one’s hands.

Classes will cover gardening, basic home repairs, common car maintenance, and an introduction to writing/journaling.

The class will meet Wednesday evenings from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.

Also during October, the church will offer a study of Ron Greer’s book on integrity, “If You Know Who You Are You’ll Know What to Do.” Greer will join the group for the final class session on Oct. 27. Read More»

Apple trip on tap for B-Acts group

The B-Acts group (seniors 50 and older) at Flat Creek Baptist Church between Fayetteville and Peachtree City will travel to north Georgia for lunch and apple shopping on Saturday, Oct. 9.

The bus will leave the church at 9 a.m. and return at 4:30 p.m.

The cost is $6 for family style lunch at Pat’s Kountry Kitchen. Price includes tax and gratuity.

McDonough Rd. Baptist will offer ‘Fireproof’ the movie October 10

“Fireproof” the movie, starring Kirk Cameron and Erin Bethea, will be presented at McDonough Road Baptist Church on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 5 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The 2008 release is about fire captain Caleb Holt and his valiant effort to save his struggling marriage.

Living by the old firefighter’s adage Never Leave Your Partner Behind, Holt faces his greatest challenge ever on the home front, and that is rescuing and resuscitating his marriage.

Olivet Church will celebrate 19th anniversary October 31

The Olivet Church in Fayetteville will celebrate its 19th anniversary Sunday, Oct. 31 and invites the community to join in the celebration.

Special services are planned for each Sunday during the month of October.

Library hosts Emerging Writer's Showcase, Oct. 9

Eight authors in the early stages of their writing careers will participate in the Fall Emerging Writers Showcase on Saturday, October 9, at 1:00 p.m., at the Fayette County Public Library in Fayetteville. It’s time for fall landscaping. Boy Scout Troop 279, sponsored by Holy Trinity in Peachtree City, is accepting orders for its Oct. 16 Pine Straw Fundraiser, just in time for fall landscaping projects. The cost per bale is $3 if you pick up your order, $3.50 per bale if the troop delivers it, within the Peachtree City limits. The pine straw bales will be available for pickup at McIntosh High School from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16. Marsha Ann Christine Bentley Chafardon, 58, of Peachtree City, GA died on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Piedmont Fayette Hospital.

She was born February 22, 1952 in Chester, PA to Layman "Fireball" Richard Bentley and the late Marcella Ann Dolezal Bentley. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and for her love of her relatives, life, nature and patriotism.
