PTC’s Civil Air Patrol squadron takes 1st & 2nd place in state competition

Peachtree City’s Civil Air Patrol squadron GA116 wins big again at state competition held at Dobbins ARB on Nov. 13, 2010.

The Drill Team, led by Cadet Capt. Dan Schulz, assisted by Cadet Mst. Sgt. Brandon Austin, won six out of seven events, in addition to first place overall.

Senior Civil Air Patrol members Lt. Col. Pete Schulz and Major Kelly Austin were there to assist cadets as needed.

Wahna Dresden Noble, 53, of Senoia, Georgia, passed awayTuesday, November 16, 2010 after a long battle with cancer.

Mrs. Eloise Hampton, 70, of Peachtree City, GA died November 17, 2010.

Eloise was born in Ohio and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hamilton, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband Phillip Delbert Hampton and her parents Walter James Hornung & Stella Mae McCreadie Hornung.

She is survived by her daughter Michelle Moreno of Peachtree City, GA ; grandson Marcus Moreno of Peachtree City, GA ; sister Janelle Statzer & husband Don of Carlsbad, CA and numerous nieces & nephews.

Kaley Michele Kennison, 26

Kaley Michele Kennison, 26, of Cedar Falls, Iowa and formerly of Dunedin, Florida, died at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa, early Saturday morning, November 13, 2010, following a single car accident in Cedar Falls.

Kaley was born on August 3, 1984 in Plano, Texas, the daughter of Jack L. and Mercedes M.(Wumkes) Kennison. Kaley attended school in Florida. She recently moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to live and work with her uncle Cory Wumkes as a medical assistant in his therapy practice.

Mr. Francis Thiel, 94, of Fayetteville, GA died November 17, 2010.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Hicks Thiel.

Mr. Thiel is survived by his children Jackie Ludwig & her husband Larry of Peachtree City, GA, Judith Yu of Fayetteville, GA, Nancy Brandow & her husband Patrick of Olean, NY; 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; sister Ruth Harkins of Nitro, West Virginia and nieces & nephews.

Mr. Thiel was cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Wilborn Burriss Rucker, 92, of Fayetteville

Mr. Wilborn Burriss Rucker, 92, of Fayetteville, died on November 14, 2010.

Mr. Rucker was a 39-year employee of the FAA. He retired in 1980 as Chief of the Airway Facilities Division of the Southern Region. Mr. Rucker was a WWII Veteran who proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps in England.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Dorothy Reese Rucker; step-daughter, Teresa Brown (William) of Barnesville; five step-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; sister, Alva Louise Jones ( Milford ) of Conyers; and several nieces and nephews. Read More»

Local chapter of UDC once again has Christmas tree saluting America’s veterans

This Christmas season marks the third year that a tree honoring veterans of All Wars will be placed by the Frankie Lyle Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy in downtown Fayetteville.

Honoring veterans is an ongoing project of the general organization and that of the chapter.  The proceeds from this project will enable the chapter to continue supporting veteran causes at home and abroad as well as other patriotic activities.

Personalized ornaments honoring a veteran may be purchased for $10 each.  Every veteran will be prayed for as his/her name is handwritten on the ornament. Read More»

DAR honors vets at Dogwood Forest

Dogwood Forest Assisted Living in Fayetteville was the site of patriotic pride on Veterans Day as 15 veterans were honored for their service to America.  The James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution presented certificates of appreciation and goody bags to the veterans while the American Legion Post 105 honored the veterans with certificates, flags and pins.
