Steven Edward Williams, born September 27, 1962 to Gordon and Laurel Williams, in Leadville, Colorado, passed away at his home in Sharpsburg on February 15, 2011.

Steve grew up in the western slope of Colorado where he enjoyed a wide variety of outdoor activities and became an accomplished nature photographer. He graduated from Basalt High School, Colorado and later moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Penelope Wanelle Welch, 70, of Fayetteville, Ga., died February 10, 2011.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Glad Tidings Assembly of God, Jonesboro. Rev. Larry Hammock will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service.

Born April 2, 1940, in Alabama, she lived in Alaska from the late 1990s until 2009. She had worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Alaska Department of Corrections.

Mr. Robert “Bob” John Bales, 85, of Fayetteville, passed away on February 11, 2011.

Mr. Bales was a WWII survivor of the Normandy invasion and went ashore at Omaha Beach. He later served under General G.S. Patton, Jr. during the occupation of Berlin. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
