Hugo-Kimsey engagement

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hugo of San Jose, Calif., announce the engagement of their daughter, Jeanne Hugo, to Thomas Andrew Kimsey, son of Mrs. Rebecca Kimsey of Fayetteville, and the late Timothy Kimsey.

The bride-to-be is currently studying at Biola University. She plans to graduate in December of 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership. She is originally from Stellenbosch, South Africa and presently lives in San Diego, Calif. Read More»

Jordan-Mathis wedding

Richelle Jarrett Jordan and Michael Alan Mathis were married June 24, 2010 at Crossroads Baptist Church in Sharpsburg. Pastor Ken Adams conducted the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Richard and Wilda Jarrett of Fayetteville. The groom is the son of Judith Mathis and the late Clyde Mathis of Peachtree City.

Wedding rings were presented by the groom’s nephew, Matt Tyler.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the church. Mr. and Mrs. Mathis honeymooned in a cabin in the North Georgia Mountains and now reside in Fayetteville.

Whisnant-Brown engagement

Kevin and Teresa McCarthy of Fayetteville announce the engagement and forthcoming wedding of their daughter, Jessica Frances Whisnant, to Alexander James Brown, son of Robert and Mi Yon Brown.

The bride is a 2007 graduate of Starr’s Mill High School. She currently attends Kennesaw State University and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

The groom is a 2006 graduate of McIntosh High School. He attends Kennesaw State University, and will graduate and receive a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army in December. Read More»

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Brettin of Peachtree City announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Brittney K’Lyn Brettin, to Ryan Matthew Gloer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jon Gloer of Fayetteville.

The bride-to-be is a 2005 graduate of McIntosh High School and a 2009 graduate of Louisiana State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communications/advertising and was named to LSU’s Homecoming Court and Tiger 12. Project Linus being ‘reborn’ at Community Christian Church

Community Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Fayetteville is revitalizing the “Project Linus” program which makes no-sew fleece security blankets, receiving blankets, quilts, crotcheted and knitted afghans and comforters for newborns and children,.

“Project Linus” volunteers provide new, handmade, washable blankets to be given as gifts to seriously ill or tramatized children (ages 0 -18). These blankets are distributed to local hospitals, DEFACS offices, police, fire and sheriffs departments, homeless shelters or anywhere that a child needs a big hug. Read More»

Fayette County musician attends 29th annual Lutheran Summer Music Academy

The 29th annual Lutheran Summer Music Academy (LSM) recently took place at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa from June 20 to July 18.

LSM is the pinnacle program of the Lutheran Music Program and is one of the nation’s premier summer music training programs for young people. Fayetteville resident and flutist, Jamie Callison, was one of 149 students to participate in LSM this summer. Read More»

Local churches provide summer lunches for 240 needy children

This summer, some 240 children in need enjoyed nutritious meals each weekday thanks to the combined efforts of Fayette County congregations and the support of community partners.

Over the past seven years Laura Cox of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church has worked closely with the Fayette County Department of Family and Children Services to gather the names of children who normally receive free lunches during the school year and coordinate the preparation and delivery of lunches.
