Mrs. Vera F. Houston, 84, of Jonesboro

Mrs. Vera F. Houston, of Jonesboro, and a long-time Fayette County resident, passed away on November 13, 2010 at the age of 84.

Mrs. Houston was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed all types of sewing and cooking.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Mr. James Houston of Jonesboro; sons, Raymond Fuqua and his wife Shirley of Marietta, Lamar Fuqua and his wife Diane of Fayetteville; daughter Judy Policka of Jonesboro ; seven grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Read More»

Mr. Paul A. Rice, 59, of Fayetteville, died November 14, 2010.

He was a deacon at McDonough Road Baptist Church. His childhood love for planes led him to a career in aviation and membership into the Commerative Air Force in Peachtree City.

Another successful Southern Crescent Alzheimer’s Memory Walk

Under beautiful autumn skies in October approximately 1,000 participants from seven counties on Atlanta’s southside (Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, Fulton, Henry, Spalding and Meriwether) enjoyed a 5K stroll along Peachtree City’s path system in recognition of the 11th Annual Southern Crescent Alzheimer’s Memory Walk.

After tabulating all donations, including sponsor, individual, team and in-kind contributions, the final result was $197,941. The total amount raised for the Alzheimer’s Association by the walks in Peachtree City over the past 11 years is an impressive $1,926,284. Read More»

Join fellow nature lovers and local Scouts on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m. to help improve the Mule Rock Trail at Line Creek Nature Area, which is managed by Southern Conservation Trust.

Scout Garrick Larson has chosen to improve and extend a severely eroded, dangerous trail that leads down to the Mule Rock, one of the most interesting features at the popular nature preserve, located off Ga. Highway 54 at the Coweta County line. This project will qualify Garrick as an Eagle Scout and for the prestigious William T. Hornaday award for conservation service. Read More»

Young gospel singer to appear at Flat Creek Sunday morning

Logan Smith, the 13-year-old gospel singing sensation from Covington, will appear in concert at Flat Creek Baptist Church Sunday morning, Nov. 14 at 10:45 a.m.

Logan began singing at the age of seven and has appeared with the Gaither Homecoming Tour many times. He recorded his first CD, “The Journey Begins,” at the age of 10 and has since recorded several more.
