Thrift shop plans sale, breakfast

The Second Chance Thrift Shop will have its annual sale in the gym at Brooks United Methodist Church on Friday and Saturday, May 13 and 14, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds benefit local, national and international outreach and mission programs.

A pancake breakfast is also planned Saturday morning from 8 – 11:30 a.m. There is no cost for the breakfast, but donations will be accepted.

Brooks UMC is at the corner of Ga. Highway 85 Connector and Morgan Mill Road.

Hopewell to host chicken barbecue, yard sale, bake sale, car wash May 21

Tyrone’s Hopewell United Methodist Church will hold its annual Chick-N-Que on Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $7.50.

The meal cosists of a barbecued chicken half, coleslaw, baked beans, bread, and iced tea. Proceeds from the Chick-N-Que fund the many mission projects of the church.

In addition to the Chick-N-Que, there will also be a yard sale, and a bake sale, and the youth will sponsor a car wash from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Square Foot Ministry plans yard sale May 21

Square Foot Ministry (SFM), a ministry of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church (FFUMC) and local non-profit organization, is seeking donated items for its annual yard sale planned for Saturday, May 21. The yard sale will be in the parking lot and Family Life Center of FFUMC from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday only.

Items that will be accepted include furniture, books, jewelry., small appliances, knick-knacks, toys, linens, sporting equipment and household goods in good, saleable condition. Read More»

Gosdin birth

Brian and Jana Gosdin of Sharpsburg announce the birth of their son, Jax Bricen Gosdin, born at 5:06 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Piedmont Fayette Hospital, Fayetteville. He weighed 5 pounds, 10 ounces and was 20 inches long. Paternal grandparents are Joel and Sandra Gosdin of Woolsey. Maternal grandparents are Steve and Roxy Gadzicki and Dan Schulz of Peachtree City. Great-grandmothers are Margaret Ellington of LaGrange and Shirley Freeman of Clarion, Iowa.

Phyllis Hutchison Withrow, age 83, of Fayetteville passed away on May 9, 2011 following a long illness with stomach cancer. Phyllis was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years.
