F'ville American Legion Post presented flag flown in Iraq

Captain Greg Adams, U.S. Navy (R) and a member of The American Legion, Fayette County Post 105, recently returned from duty in Iraq and made a presentation to his post of a U.S. flag that flew in Iraq, dedicated to Post 105. Accepting the flag is Denny Leander, Post Commander. The flag will be displayed in the Log Cabin in Fayetteville, the home of Post 105. The post meets the second Monday of each month. Valentine’s Day marks the 46th anniversary of the day Christian City in Union City opened the first cottage to eight little boys who were without a home. Founders thought that Valentine’s Day, a day set aside to celebrate love, would be the perfect time to launch their vision of providing love and a safe, warm home to children without a place to live. Mrs. Richardson was preceded in death by her father Grady Parker Myers.

Mr. Walker was a member of Christ Church at Whitewater and also the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Walker also served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Donald Kelley Knowles, 74, of Riverdale

Mr. Donald Kelley Knowles, 74, of Riverdale, passed away on February 9, 2011, following a valiant battle with cancer.

Mr. Knowles was a veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, retiring after 20 years of service which included two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and it was said that he never met a stranger. Mona Lucille Stewart, formerly of Fayette County

The life of Mona Stewart Lawson was remembered on February 6, 2011 with a gathering of friends and family at her son’s home in the Bent Tree community in Jasper, GA.

It is appropriate that Mona’s life was celebrated with a party rather than memorialized with a funeral, since Mona was a consummate hostess, known for being able to easily host both large, elegant Christmas parties and spontaneous fish-fries.
