Lareen Peeples, loving wife, mother, proud grandmother, and friend, 56, of Fayetteville, passed away April 7, 2011.

Mrs. Peeples was retired from the U.S. government at FORSCOM Headquarters G-3/5/7 Chief Force Management. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Fayetteville.

SCHS students’ skills earn awards at state competition; two headed for national conference

Six Sandy Creek High students earned gold, silver and bronze medals at the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference for their abilities in the areas of Job Skill Demonstration, Graphic Design and Communication, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Automotive Service and Diesel Equipment Technology.

Bringing home gold medals were Gavin Baswell (Job Skill Demonstration) and Chanelle Smith-Walker (Georgia SkillsUSA Brochure).

Mrs. Rogers, preceded in death by her husband Walter G. Rogers Jr., was a longtime member of the Mullins Methodist Church in Memphis and a graduate of Blue Mountain College.

Ride to support ‘Wall That Heals’

If you haven’t visited the iconic Vietnam Veterans Wall in Washington, D.C., you’ll get your chance to see a replica of the monument in neighboring Coweta County in October.

A motorcycle benefit ride on April 23 will raise money to bring “The Wall That Heals,” a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, to the Coweta County Fairgrounds this fall.

A function of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF), the benefit ride is open to all motorcycle enthusiasts, with donations accepted at the time of registration. Read More»

26th annual Art & Music Showcase featured lots of local talent

The 2011 Art & Music Showcase sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City was held at the Bridge Community Center in Peachtree City on March 21.

Local youth from grades 1st through 12th competed in art and music. The competition is arranged in grade groups 1-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. The art competition had 142 entrants. The music competition had 47 performers audition, of which 21 made it to the finals. Winners are chosen from each group by a panel of judges. The high school winner from the music competition advances on to compete in the District competition held later this month. Read More»
