CDM to host summer camp for kids May 31 - August 5

Christ Discipleship Ministries (CDM) will collaborate with Patterson Sports Authority, FHS Business Consulting, Path To Wellness Foundation, DEC (Driver Empowerment Center), and the QYRx Group to sponsor a summer camp called CDM/PSA Summer Youth Camp 2011, to be held at Christ Discipleship Ministries, 114 W. Campbellton Street, Fairburn.

The camp will be for boys and girls age PreK through 12th grade with such activities as sports, games, arts and crafts, field trips, character building, guest speakers, liberal arts and more. Read More»

First Presbyterian Church will have a rummage sale to help the youth go on a mission trip to Chattanooga for the second year in a row. The sale will be held Saturday, April 30, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. First Presbyterian is at 206 Willowbend Rd., near City Hall and the Peachtree City Library.

Torch of Hope kicks off Relay for Life this Friday

One by one, the Torch of Hope will be passed from survivor to survivor.

The Torch of Hope will begin its trek from Peachtree City City Hall about 4:30 p.m. April 29, being held high in the hands of Harold Logsdon, former PTC Mayor and Honorary Co-Chairman of the Fayette County Relay for Life – and most importantly, a cancer survivor. The Torch will be passed hand-to-hand as it makes its way along Highway 54 to Peachtree Parkway, Crosstown, TDK and Dividend on the way to Falcon Field, the new home of the Fayette County Relay For Life. Lunch on the Lawn returns this Friday

Fayetteville Main Street is excited to kick off the spring season with its first outdoor event of the year.

This Friday, the first Lunch on the Lawn program of 2011 will provide a wonderful opportunity for local employees and residents to get outside on their lunch break, and enjoy the beautiful weather and music on the Historic Courthouse lawn.

Lunch on the Lawn will take place from 11.30 a.m. – 1.30 p.m., and everyone is welcome to participate in this community event.

Free kids event Saturday

To help raise awareness for child abuse prevention, the Fayette County Department of Family and Children Services is hosting a fun event for children Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

There will be a balloon artist, petting zoo, face painting and other activities and games for children. Also the Fayetteville Police Department will offer child identification cards and the Fayette County Health Department will offer free vision, dental and hearing screenings for children. Read More»

Mrs. Jean Elizabeth Werner, age 84, of Ohatchee

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at St. James Catholic Church, 622 Chestnut St Gadsden, Alabama for Mrs. Jean Elizabeth Werner, age 84, of Ohatchee, who passed away Saturday April 23, 2011. Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Roslindale, Massachusetts.

Mrs. Werner was a native of Boston, Massachusetts and was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Gadsden, Alabama. She was retired from Delta Airlines and a member of the Delta Pioneer Club.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years Charles; daughter Kelly (Paul) Honea of Loganville; son Ryan (Ashley) Olenick of Smyrna; grandchildren Bryce and Avery Honea; father Edmond Wisniewski of Garden City, MI; sisters Shirley (Michael) Ostroskie of Garden City, MI; Susan (Lee) March of Scottsdale, AZ; Connie (Bill) Dea of Queen Creek, AZ; brother Jim (Charlene) Wisniewski of Westland, MI; and several nieces and nephews.
