National Heights Baptist plans community pancake breakfast

National Heights Baptist Church is preparing a Community Pancake Breakfast on Saturday morning, Jan. 23, from 9 until 10:30 a.m. as an opportunity to meet more of the community surrounding the church.

“The area around the church has grown significantly in recent years and the congregation would like to offer its help, prayers and fellowship to all their neighbors — as well as anyone new to the Fayetteville-Peachtree City area,” a spokesperson said. Read More»

‘Decisions for end of life’ seminar set for tomorrow

An Adult Speaker Series will be launched at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Newnan, with the program entitled “Making Health Care Decisions Near the End-Of-Life” It will be presented by Dr. Carl Hug, M.D., Ph.D., on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at the church.

Hug serves as professor of anesthesiology emeritus at Emory University School of Medicine.

No reservations are required and the public is invited to attend.

St. Mary Magdalene is at 3 Village Rd., directly behind the new Coweta Public Library, and just off Ga. Highway 154 and Lower Fayetteville Road.

FFUMC’s 2009 Tour of Homes raises $12,500 for counseling center build

United Methodist Church (FFUMC), presented a $12,500 check to Craig Wiley, chair for the Counseling Center Legacy Build, to support the completion of the Fayette Counseling Center.

Funds for the donation were generated from the recent 2009 Christmas Tour of Homes, sponsored by FFUMC, and chaired by Cleve Kiser.

Work was initiated by Square Foot Ministries in February 2009 to develop a new 3,800 square foot counseling center. Wiley reminded the group that Square Foot Ministries — a nondenominational charity — was initiated a number of years back within FFUMC. Read More»

‘U2charist’ service set for Jan 30 at Providence

Providence United Methodist Church will present the music of U2 live on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. The term “U2charist” was coined by an Episcopal church; “Eucharist,” meaning “Thanksgiving,” is another term for Holy Communion, so this is a service of U2 music combined with a short message and communion. Christ Discipleship Ministries (CDM),114 W. Campbellton St., Fairburn, will host a leadership seminar entitled “Elijah and Elisha and the Relationship of Today’s Church Leadership” Sunday, Jan. 24, at 5:30 p.m. The speakers will be Pastor Carolyn Driver and Pastor Timothy Frazier.

Cynthia Ann Turner, 41, Fayetteville, died Jan. 9, 2010. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Survivors include her husband of 17 years, Stephen "Steve" G. Turner Sr., Fayetteville; a son, Stephen G. Turner Jr., Fayetteville; parents, Joseph and Beverly Franks, Melbourne, Fla.; in-laws, Harold and Jean Turner, Fayetteville; a sister, Becky and Greg Willhite, Fayetteville, Ark.; and brothers-in-law, Michael Turner, Fayetteville, and Gary and Deborah Turner, Dallas, Ga.
