All Saints honors Harvey

The All Saints Anglican Church Altar Guild honored Lorraine Harvey recently as she stepped down as its ministry leader. Harvey had led the group since the church was formed several years ago. The new team leader, Patsy Burdeshaw, praised Harvey’s dedication and expertise as she presented her with a bouquet of roses. The guild also is giving the church a set of crystal altar cruets in Harvey’s name.

SFM readies for spring yard sale

Square Foot Ministries is now accepting items for its annual yard sale set for sometime this spring.

Items being accepted include furniture, books, jewelry, small appliances. knick knacks, toys, children’s shoes and clothing, linens, sporting equipment and household goods in good, saleable condition. Adult clothing and mattresses/box springs will not be accepted.

Wisconsin Lutheran Choir to perform in Sharpsburg

The Wisconsin Lutheran Choir and Chamber Choir from Wisconsin Lutheran College will perform a free concert on Sunday, March 7 at 7 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Sharpsburg.

The choir will present a diverse, mostly a capella program of sacred and secular choral works in original languages.

The program in four parts concludes with favorite hymns and spirituals, including arrangements by Harry T. Burleigh, F. Melius Christiansen, and Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory, and the Wisconsin Lutheran Choir’s signature “Abide With Me,” arranged by Lucy Hirt. Read More»

SAGE headed for Junaluska

The SAGE group (seniors) at Fayetteville first UMC will spend March 14-16 at Lake Junaluska, staying at the Lambuth Inn, touring the United Methodist World Museum, and sightseeing in Waynesville.

Cost is $130 per person for a double room or $200 single.

Christian City Children’s Home celebrates 45 years

Christian City celebrated 45 years of ministry to children and seniors on Feb. 14. Christian City opened the first children’s cottage to eight young boys affected by situations of abuse and abandonment on Valentine’s Day, 1965.

Since then, Christian City and the Children’s Village have been “home” to more than 1,000 children and thousands of retiring seniors and the elderly through their Life Lease Homes, HUD housing apartments, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility, an assisted living facility, and the first ever free standing Alzheimer’s Care Center in Georgia. Thomas Hamilton Vickery

Thomas Hamilton "Tom" Vickery Jr., 83, Griffin, died Feb. 1, 2010. He was born Nov. 17, 1926. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Hamilton and Robbie Burnham Vickery, and sons Ronald Vickery, and Donald Vickery. He served in the United States Merchant Marines and upon returning to civilian life, worked in his father's painting contracting business. He later pursued a career in law enforcement, retiring with the rank of lieutenant after 28 years on the Newnan Police Department. He enjoyed traveling and spending time on Greenwood Lake in Heard County. Read More»

Frank T. Coppage

Frank T. Coppage, 78, Senoia, died Feb. 2, 2010. He was born June 14, 1931, in Brooks County, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivy and Katie Dixon Coppage, and six brothers and sisters. He was graduated from Miami, Fla. Edison High School in 1948. He served in the United States Coast Guard. He owned and operated a roof painting company in Miami, and then moved to LaFayette, Ga. in1978 opening a building and supply store which he ran until retirement in 1997. In 2005 he and his wife moved to Senoia to be closer to family. He enjoyed working outdoors. Read More»
