Mrs. Betty Jo Hills, of Tyrone

Mrs. Betty Jo Hills of Tyrone passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010. Mrs. Hills was an employee of South Fulton Hospital for 24 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George E. Hills and is survived by her son, Glenn Hills of Tyrone; daughter, Kathy Sims of Tyrone; sisters, Sara Lee of Kansas, Pat Sams of Peachtree City; brother, W.E. Mr. Charles Erwin Mathias of Fayetteville died Monday, March 1, 2010.

Mr. Mathias was an IT consultant in Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his father Warren Mathias.

He is survived by his wife Brenda Mathias; sons, Clayton Ross Mathias, Casey Maxwell Mathias, Cory James Mathias, all of Fayetteville ; mother Lorene Mathias; brother Glenn Mathias, both of Plant City , FL.

Eat pasta for kids charities

People of all ages enjoy all-you-can-eat spaghetti at last year's Kiwanis dinner. This year's will be March 19 at Booth Middle School from 4:30-8:00 p.m. Tickets are $7 each. Under age 5 are free. All funds go to children's charities.

Pasta is not the first thing that comes to mind in giving back to the community. Friday, Mar. 19, pasta will be on the charity agenda and menu. Mr. Dewey Fred Patterson, Jr., 79, of Peachtree City

Dewey Fredd Patterson, Jr., 79, died Sunday, March 7, 2010.

Born in Elkton, Maryland to Dewey & Elizabeth Patterson., he was a graduate of Elkton High School and the University of Maryland where he played trumpet for the university band.

During the early 50’s he served as a Captain in the US Army. He also enjoyed a successful career as a sales manager for Peterson Publishing Co. He was lifetime member of Kiwanis Club and served as vice president of Jaycees. Read More»

Jesse “Allen” Flowers, 82, of Tyrone, died March 8, 2010.

He was a 23-year employee of Vulcan Materials Company and a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bobbie Flowers; sister Lula V. Hillhouse of Cartersville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville with Rev. Philip Johnson officiating. Hopewell’s financial Peace class starts tomorrow night

Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone will begin Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University (FPU) class on Thursday, March 11, at 7 p.m.

FPU is a 13-week program with the goal of not just information, but transformation. More than one million families have attended FPU. On average, they pay off $5,300 in debt and save $2,700 in just 90 days.

Preschool celebrates anniversary

Peachtree City United Methodist Church invites the commiunity to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its preschool program with a dinner and open house on Tuesday, March 16.

Festivities will begin with a spaghetti dinner at 5:30 p.m. in the PTCUMC multipurpose room. Class photos from all 25 years will be shown during the dinner and current students will sing.

Martz is new senior warden at Church of the Nativity

Anne Martz is the new senior warden of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Fayetteville. She succeeds Debbie Johnson.

Martz was appointed to the post by the the Rev. Rita Henault, rector, after the recent parish annual meeting. Fred Lusk continues as junior warden.
