Rose Marie Godfrey engaged to Kevin Paul Baker

Mr. and Mrs. Rick Godfrey of Sharpsburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Rose Marie Godfrey, to Kevin Paul Baker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Baker of Macon.

The bride-to-be is a member of Fayette County Special Olympics where she regularly competes in bowling, softball, volleyball, and table tennis.

The groom-elect is a member of the Macon Special Olympics where he regularly competes in bowling, softball, hockey, and photography. He is also a member of the Shutterbug Camera Club. Several of his photographs have won awards at the Cherry Blossom Festival in Macon. Read More»

Ben and Shannon (Murphy) Helton of Peachtree City announce the birth of their daughter, Lillian Rose Helton, at 12:42 p.m. on Jan. 15, 2010, at Fayette Piedmont Hospital in Fayetteville. Lily weighed 7 lbs., 8 oz., and was 19.5 inches long. Grandparents are Bob and Lil Jones of Peachtree City and Ray Helton of Peachtree City and Bonnie Helton of Peachtree City. Great-grandmother is Gertrude Murphy of Fayetteville.

Kostuch

Brent and Tiffany(Naler) Kostuch of Senoia announce the birth of their son, Henry Alan Kostuch, at 3:31 p.m. on Feb. 15, 2010, at Piedmont-Fayette Hospital in Fayetteville. Henry weighed 4 lbs., 12 oz., and was 18 inches long. Grandparents are Norman and Helen Naler of Brooks and Ray and Darlene Kostuch of Fayetteville.

Pine straw fundraiser for Boy Scout Troop 279

Boy Scout Troop 279, sponsored by Holy Trinity in Peachtree City, is accepting orders through Apr. 5 for its Spring 2010 Pine Straw Fundraiser, just in time for landscaping projects and to spruce up your yard. The cost per bale is $3.00 if you pick up your order, $3.50 per bale if the troop delivers your order, though delivery is available only within the Peachtree City limits.

The bales of pine straw will be available for pickup at McIntosh High School from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Apr. 10. The troop will drop off orders for delivery between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. that same day. Read More»

Fayetteville native receives national honor from the American Society of Engineering Education

Anthony Schwartz

Anthony Schwartz, a senior biomedical engineering major at the Georgia Institute of Technology, has been named the 2009 Co-op Student of the Year by the Cooperative and Experiential Education Division (CEED) of the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE).  Schwartz, a 2005 graduate of Fayette County High School, received the award at a ceremony in Palm Springs, CA, earlier this month. Towne Club at Peachtree City hosted a dog show for Monday, March 15 with dogs of resident’s family & friends as candidates.

Judges were representatives from PetSmart, Braelinn Village Animal Hospital, Fayette County Humane Society and Michelle Phillips, special needs teacher and also a daughter of Towne Club resident Vivian Pontius. Read More»

Michael Keplinger, 49, of Hampton

Mr. Michael Keplinger, age 49, of Hampton, died March 16, 2010. 

The funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 18, in the Jonesboro Chapel of Pope Dickson & Son with Rev. Tom Shannon officiating. 

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Keplinger; biological children, Michael Dylan, Taylor D’Marie, Timothy Hunter; step-son, Christopher Miller; step-daughter, Kelli Jordan; three step-grandchildren; mother and father, Oscar and June Keplinger; sisters, Karen Keplinger, Teresa Snider; and several nieces and nephews. Daphna Odell Scott, 86, of Peachtree City

Daphna Odell Scott, 86, of Peachtree City died March 15, 2010.

Mrs. Scott had resided at Southland Nursing & Rehab for a year and a half when she passed away. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Ford Scott & her daughter Priscilla.  She is survived by her son Philip Scott & his wife LaDonna of  Peachtree City; grandchildren Paula Hardy of Carrollton, Steve Partain of Ellenwood, Ryan Scott & Tyler Scott, both of Peachtree City, and four great-grandchildren. Windel W. Norton, 66, of Fayetteville

After a long and brave battle against Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and lung cancer, Windel W. Norton, 66, passed away at his residence on March 12, 2010 with his wife, daughter, and youngest brother by his side.

Born Nov. 21, 1943, in Pelham, Ga., to the late Curtis and Ruth Norton, Windel joined the United States Army in 1962. He was stationed in Augsburg, Germany where he met his wife, Monika. Upon completion of his enlistment in the Army, he received an Honorable Discharge and they returned to Georgia in 1965. Read More»
