Local readers encouraged to read 'Rocket Boys'

The Fayette County Public Library is pleased to announce that the 2011 “Fayette on the Page: One Book, One Community” initiative will focus on “Rocket Boys,” a memoir by Homer Hickam. Now in its fourth year, “Fayette on the Page” is an annual countywide reading and discussion program encouraging all Fayette County residents to read the same book, and then participate in related cultural, educational and recreational activities. PTCUMC’s Andone appointed to bishop’s cabinet

One of the three new cabinet members announced recently by Bishop Mike Watson of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church is currently the senior pastor of the Peachtree City United Methodist Church. The Rev. Herzen Andone has been appointed to the cabinet and has also been promoted to become the district superintendent of the Northwest District of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church.

The new cabinet appointment will become effective July 1. Andone will serve over 75 charges and 85 churches in this district. Read More»

FFUMC offering summer activities for toddlers 2-4

There’s still time to register your child for FFUMC’s summer program open to ages two through four. Summer Fun Days meet during June and July on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. - noon. The cost is $15 per day, per child. Spaces are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. Below are the themes for each day:

June 7 and 8 - Safari Adventure; June 14 and 15 - Beach Party; June 21 and 22 - Let’s Cook.

No Programs are scheduled June 28, June 29 and July 5, due to VBS and the July 4 holiday. Read More»

Sharpsburg Baptist Church will start ‘Backyard Bible Clubs’ June 10

Sharpsburg Baptist Church in Coweta County has announced a brand new youth program called “The Great Backyard Bible Clubs” scheduled for Fridays June 10, June 17, July 8 and July 15 held from 10 a.m. until noon at the A&O BridgesRecreation Center in downtown Sharpsburg.

All children from ages first grade through fifth grade are invited.

Included in this fun program are food, fun, fellowship, games, music, crafts, and Bible stories — all free of charge. All children in the area are invited.

PandaMania VBS set at Hopewell

Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone invites all children ages preschool gthrough fifth grade to participate in PandaMania VBS 2011 which will be held at the church June 27-30, from 9 a.m. - noon.

PandaMania is filled with Bible-learning experiences that the children will see, hear, touch, and even taste. Bible Point crafts, team-building games, Bible songs, and treats are just a few of the PandaMania activities that are included.

McDonough Rd. Baptist invites kids to ‘Big Apple Adventure’

The McDonough Road Baptist Church in Fayetteville invites children and students to join them for Vacation Bible School Monday-Friday, June 6-10, from 9 a.m. – noon.

This year’s theme is “Big Apple Adventure: Where Faith and Life Connect.” Set in New York City, the adventure will help Bible schoolers discover a variety of enriching spiritual truths and experience fun activities, including crafts, music, and missions.
