Joyce Disharoon Reich, 76, of Fayetteville, passed away on July 15, 2011.

Mrs. Reich proudly served her country as a member of the U.S. Navy.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert J. Disharoon.

She is survived by Roger Clayton; nieces, Cindy Rampley and her husband Lanny, and Kathy Murphy; nephew, Mike Disharoon and his wife, Cindy; several other nieces & nephews; good friend Karen Gifford.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Gregory Eugene Poe, 41, of Fayetteville, went to be with the Lord on July 12, 2011 after an extended illness.

Gregg was born on July 22, 1969, in Chambersburg, PA. He is the much beloved son of Larry and Janis Poe of Goose Creek, SC.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carla Brannon Poe; a devoted sister Anita R. Black of Winchester, VA; a daughter, Cheri Poe of Peachtree City; a son, Aarron Poe of New Caney, TX; and his stepson, Keegan Brannon of Waleska; a niece, Amber Keehr of Winchester, VA; a nephew, John Black of Durham, NC and many extended family members. Mr. Oliver Clyde “O.C.” Hendrix, Jr., 79, of Fayetteville, passed away on July 11, 2011.

Mr. Hendrix was a member and past president of the Fayette Chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was also a member of Fayetteville 1st United Methodist Church where he served as an usher. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Read More»

Couple celebrates 70 years together

Austin Williams met his future wife, Margaret, at an outdoor skating rink in College Park in 1940. They were both 17 years old.

At five minutes to 9 p.m., the staff flashed the lights, alerting the skaters of the approaching curfew. Austin, known as A.U. to his friends, asked Margaret if he could walk her home. She lived a block away and agreed.

When they reached her house, A.U. asked if he could see her again. She said yes. Read More»

GraceFlock Band from Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City will play a concert on July 17 at All Saints Lutheran Church in Lilburn. The band will also play on Aug. 6 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Alpharetta and on Aug. 12 at The Frederick W. Brown Amphitheater in Peachtree City. The band has produced three compact discs of all-original music, and they lead music every Sunday at a 10:50 a.m. worship service. Read More»

Flat Creek will host ‘Mighty Men of God’ conference August 5 & 6

Flat Creek Baptist Church will host a “Mighty Men of God” conference Friday and Saturday, Aug. 5 and 6, for all men of the community age 12 and older. The conference will feature Dr. Paul David Freed, minister, author, publisher and TV personality, who will speak on manhood, fatherhood, sonship, leadership and friendship principles, and workplace issues.

On Friday, doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the conference scheduled from 6:45 - 9:30 p.m.

On Saturday, coffee and doughnuts will be available at 8 a.m., with the conference scheduled from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Read More»

Pregnancy Resource Center gets ‘Monday Mission’ help from youth

Several members of the youth group from Rolling Hills Baptist Church, along with parents, recently participated in a “Monday Mission” at the Pregnancy Resource Center in Fayetteville. The group sorted clothing, packaged diapers for distribution, cleaned toys, and miscellaneous other tasks that the staff at the PRC needed help with.

Monday Missions is an annual youth service program conducted by Rolling Hills that keeps their teens busy during summer vacation serving others.A Read More»
