Mr. Lyman Jack Collins, 98, of Fayetteville

Mr. Lyman Jack Collins, 98, of Fayetteville, passed away on March 18, 2011.

Mr. Collins was born in Rico, GA on March 24, 1912 to the late Aaron and Laura Collins. He proudly served two tours of duty during World War II with the Black Hawk Division, one in the Pacific and one in Europe. After 40 years of dedicated service, he retired from Arrow Shirt Company.

Mr. Collins is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Collins and daughter Jan Larry.

He is survived by his sister Rubye Barnes of Fayetteville ; grandchildren Christopher Larry and Brad Jones; several nieces and nephews. Read More»

Mr. Rickey G. Cleveland, 54, of Jonesboro, died March 18, 2011.

Mr. Cleveland was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church.

Chair-ity event volunteers present Christian City with $34,496.90

The Children’s Chair-ity Volunteer Committee presented Christian City with a check for over $30,000 from the event that took place in December 2010. The money raised from ticket sales, sponsorships, and the silent auction helps support and fulfill the needs of the abandoned, abused, and neglected children who live in the cottages at the Children’s Village. The volunteer committee is already planning this year’s fundraiser that will take place on Dec. 1, 2011. Read More»

Mrs. Rebecca Ann Jackson of Tyrone

Mrs. Rebecca Ann Jackson of Tyrone passed away March 17, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Edwin (Ed) Jackson and is survived by her sons, Mike Jackson of Cartersville; Tim Jackson and his wife Linda of Athens; sisters, Hilda Pace of Newnan; Ruth Taylor of Athens; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 21, 2011 at 11 o’clock in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home with Dr. Farren Roper officiating. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Gardens. SCHS grad named 'Amazing Student' at UGA

Jill Turner, a 2007 graduate of Sandy Creek, was recently named an Amazing Student at the University of Georgia. She currently serves as the executive director of UGA’s chapter of the Roosevelt Institute Campus Network and as the secretary-general of the Model United Nations Team. Outside of campus, she has interned in U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan’s office in Washington, D.C., where she helped to manage and maintain legislative correspondence, serve as the initial contact for constituents with requests and concerns, research a variety of topics for staffers, and aid overall office performances. Mr. William “Dutch” Zeitschel, 85, of Fayetteville

Mr. William “Dutch” Zeitschel, 85, of Fayetteville, GA, passed away on March 16, 2011.

Mr. Zeitschel was a very generous, loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather. He proudly served in the US Navy aboard the USS Niblack, where he was a Quartermaster 3rd class, and was awarded the Pacific Theater Award. Following his Navy career he worked for 39 years at Armco Steel as a Millwright. He always had a joke to tell, loved to travel and he enjoyed collecting coins and stamps. Read More»

Tona L. Spence, 72, of Fayetteville, died March 15, 2011.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Leftwich & Madeline Walters Leftwich.

She is survived by her son Greg Spence of Fayetteville ; grandchildren Brady Spence, Ansley Spence and Blake Spence all of Douglasville; sister Janice Green of Newnan; former husband Jimmy D. Spence of Newnan; and Aunt Nell Gresham of Atlanta.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta. The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Read More»
