Williams F. Smith, 78, died May 17, 2011 after a tiresome battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday May 22, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church.

Bill had a colorful 35 year career with Delta Air Lines working in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Atlanta, Frankfurt Stuttgart Amsterdam and Denmark.

She was a member of St. Christopher Hellenic Orthodox Church in Peachtree City.

Ms. Waunetta Mae Grodeck, 78, of Fayetteville, passed away on May 15, 2011.

Ms. Grodeck is preceded in death by her parents August L. Steinke and Effie M. Hettrick Steinke; daughter Linda Lambert; grandchild Amanda Lee; three sisters; two brothers.

She is survived by her daughters Joanne (John) Romph of Fayetteville and Sandra A. Derth of Parma, OH; son Edgar A. Pape of Connecticut; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers Lawrence Steinke of Cisne, IL and Maynard Steinke Rockford, IL.

Mr. Jesse Edwin Powell of Fayetteville died May 16, 2011.

Mr. Powell was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and retired from Delta Air Lines.

He is survived by his wife Mrs. Doris Powell of Fayetteville; daughters Linda Kay Faia and her husband Robert of Isle of Palms, SC; stepchildren James Bobbitt and his wife Cathy of Peachtree City; Brenda Dover and her husband Ted of Charlotte, NC; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister Mrs. Marie McEwen of Fitzgerald; nieces and nephews. Hopewell’s Chick-N-Que is Saturday

Tyrone’s Hopewell United Methodist Church will hold its annual Chick-N-Que on Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $7.50.

The meal cosists of a barbecued chicken half, coleslaw, baked beans, bread, and iced tea. In addition to the Chick-N-Que, there will also be a yard sale and a bake sale, and the youth will sponsor a car wash from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit the Wesley Community Centers, including Camp Wesley for children, Project Extend home repairs for the elderly, and The Bethlehem Senior Center. Square Foot Ministry’s yard sale is this Saturday

Square Foot Ministry (SFM), a ministry of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church (FFUMC) and local non-profit organization, is seeking donated items for its annual yard sale planned for Saturday, May 21. The yard sale will be in the parking lot and Family Life Center of FFUMC from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday only.

Items that will be accepted include furniture, books, jewelry., small appliances, knick-knacks, toys, linens, sporting equipment and household goods in good, saleable condition. Read More»

Heritage Christian to host WinShape C3 Day Camp

Registration is now open for Winshape C3 Camp, which will be hosted by Heritage Christian Church, July 11-15. The day camp is open to all students who have completed first through sixth grade. Camp runs from 7:30 a.m.- 5 p.m. Cost is $179 for a full week of camp. A deposit of $50 is due upon registration.
